Drinking while on an antidepressant?!
Question: Drinking while on an antidepressant!?
I just started taking Lexapro today!. I like to go out from time to time and enjoy some alcoholic beverages!. I know it's never a good idea to mix pills and alcohol, but I'm sure not everyone on antidepressants is sober!. What would the effects be!? Would it make the overall effect I'm supposed to get in the long run obsolete!? Is it a bad idea!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I take Lexapro for depression, and it does not take nearly as much alcohol (maybe a fourth) to get trashed!. I found that the hard way!.
You have to keep in mind that alcohol is a depressant - and it will counteract the effects of the Lexapro!. You also will feel like crap for about two days after drinking!.
It is also supposed to be very hard on the liver - since it has to process both the Lexapro and the alcohol!.
I do have an occasional drink - but I keep it to a minimum!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I used to take Zoloft (sertraline, generic), which is an SSRI, the same classification as Lexapro!.
When drinking on an SSRI, you'll basically just be more sensitive to alcohol, and it's effects will generally be magnified!. The effects of the SSRI will be magnified as well!. If you're planning on having a sexual encounter, I would definitely NOT recommend drinking while on Lexapro (the effects of the medication take weeks to wear off once you have stopped taking it)
However, it's generally harmless, as long as you drink conservatively and slowly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hey iam on cymbalta and to be honest with you i love drinknig and going out however, last weekend i drank a bit and lets just say i did not feel good the next couple of days, you see alchohol is a stimulant and in a way the antidepressants are to, they regulate the chemicals in your brain, i would not drink but that just me from my past experiance you may be fine however one wont kill you but more may play with your head as its did with me!.!.!.!. anyways i wish you luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
if your planning to get drunk its not a good idea,a couple of beers are fine!.!.!. but i know alot of people who drink alot and are on meds and there all alive,so its up to you! but personally i wouldn't do it cause im paranoid about everything haha,take it easy on the beer manWww@Answer-Health@Com
