Question about anti-depressant pills?!

Question: Question about anti-depressant pills!?
Hi!. I went to my college counseling center today for possible depression!. And even before we started, I started crying for no reason!.!.!. After talking with the counselor, she suggested I should see psychiatrist and take some pills to help myself!. But I feel that it's ridiculous, I don't think I'm that helpless to take pills!. Is that misconception!? I really don't want to take pills because it's not going to change my life!. Did anyone take the pill before!? Can you share an experience!?

*p!.s!. I'm not abused or drug addict or anything, I'm just depressed about life!.!.!.

thanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Its possible that you have a chemical imbalance causing your depressed feelings and the pills would help!.
You shouldn't see it as helpless!. You'd be taking the steps to help yourself, and that is smart!.
Talk to the psychiatrist and get his/her opinion!. Even if you need pills for now, it doesn't mean forever!. Give yourself a break!. =)

Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Go see a therapist to talk about your problems!. If, after a few sessions, they recommend short-term medication to help you out of your depression, then take the meds!. It's not forever, and it doesn't make you a whacko!. Zoloft or Lexapro or some other anti-depressant can really help, and you still feel like yourself!. It doesn't change you!. It just helps you lift the depression, and talk therapy can help you figure out your problems so you don't get depressed again!. you can eventually wean off the meds and live a happy, drug-free life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

alot of the anti depressant pills WONT work!. they never did for me anyways!. the one pill that actually worked for my depression (it gave me energy, motivation and cleared all the sad feelings) is Adderall
look it up and read about it, it actually says its used to depression in some cases!.
Prozac makes things worse, Zoloft didnt do anything!.
Insted of running straigh for a med though u should try to figure out whats depressing you! Cuz it could be something simple!. pills should be the last choiceWww@Answer-Health@Com

OK FIRST OFF SHE SHOULDNT HAVE PUT IT IN YOUR MIND THAT YOU NEED PILLS!. YOU NEED TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST!.!.!.YES, BUT ITS UP TO THE PSYCHE IF U NEED PILLS!. I HAVE BEEN ON TOPAMAX, PROZAC, KLONOPIN AND XANAX!. IM NOT ON IT ANYMORE!. THE PROZAC WAS HELPING ME OUT BUT THEN I GOT WORSE AFTER I GOT GOOD!. IT WAS ALL BAD!. THERE ARE DIFFERENT KINDS OF PILLS TO TAKE, BUT BE CAREFUL WITH THEM!. THEY ARE DIFFERENT ON EVERYONE!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

most of family have been on anti depresants and ive considered!. but they are supposed to make you happy, so I would just take the pill and stay on it because then its temporarily changing your life!. you can message me for further questions, or you can add me please : ) :(

anti-depressant pills do not get u addicted if you take them less then 7 days are alot pills like Xanax and other more but, before u take them consult a doctor and by crying for no reason it is a sickness and if don't treat it, it gets worse!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

if you dont want to then dont take them just find a good therapist to talk to!. I personally wouldnt take them cos when you get off them your worse then when you started them and you should try to find some kind of happiness on your ownWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have been on anti-depressants for about 10 years!.!.!.!.yes they help but once you get off of them you will (or it seems) go into a deeper depression then before you got on them!. I would consider a very low dosage!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

It really depends on how bad the depression is!. In other words, how bad is the depression affecting your everyday life!. Do you still do things you enjoy, are you loosing weight, isolating or are you still functioning everyday but feel less energetic and less optimistic!. Medication is not always the answer and may not be necessary!. Talk therapy may help, additional sun light, and exercise also help!. If the depression increases and prevents you from functioning successfully in work, school and relationships then it may be time to consider medication!.

You don't really need to see a psychiatrist!!!! Unless you have a history of mental illness or a family history of mental illness!. A family/Primary Physician can screen for, assess, diagnose and treat depression!. A psych isn't necessary!. Just tell the doctor you have now if the depression continues!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you had hepatitis would you turn down medication!? Sometimes we get into a loop that feeds on itself and we start spiralling down!. To insist that we can do it all ourselves is macho crap!. AND LOOK AT WHAT YOU WROTE: "I'm just (!) depressed about life(!)!. Oh wow, man!. You are under the ol' macho spell that a man who can use a psychiatrist or some medication to break out of a vicious cycle isn't really a MAN!. Do wer have your permission to put that on your tombstone!? There are plenty of choices in therapy--and you may even LIKE Cognitive Therapy!. Student health makes psych residents available, and you can openly discuss your dissatisfaction if you hit bad patches!. Also be aware that certain antidepressants have the opposite effect on some people and there are many choices!. The main thing is to break the cycle!. The meds may take a couple of weeks to take hold!.

You're lucky, man!. My son has Bipolar II and NOTHING works because he has no patience and the "up" phase is worse than the depression!. I have nerve damage in both legs that feels like pulsing electric worms are crawling around from my knees to my toes, and it won't EVER get any better--but I'm here trying to give you hope!. Give it a try--don't even think about living the rest of your life trying to be strong until you break down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

So if you suspected depression in the first place why are you soooo surprised that she suggested medication!? Is it the stigma that goes along with taking medication!? From the sounds of it you are doing what is very typical of people with depression: denying and discounting symptoms!. You don't want to think the problem is as bad as is because that would mean facing the real problem!. yes, being on medication sucks big time but being depressed and crying at the drop of a hat and not being able to function wont get you very far in life either!. You can't help that your brain is going all crazy so what's wrong to take something to help correct that!? You wouldn't deny yourself insulin to help correct the amount of glucose (or whatever it is--sugars) in your body would you!? The point is, your counselor did the right thing by referring you to a psychiatrist who is a trained medical doctor who is more qualified and can make a better assessment than he/she can!. And also, many people are depressed and are the richest people in the world and have everything they could ever want and you'd think, "what do they have to be depressed about!?" it doesn't have to do with that--depression has to do with your brain chemistry so stop throwing stereotypes around and go to the damn doctors and get the damn pills!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
