Question: How to help my girlfriend who is bipolar!?
Me and my girlfriend have been dating for 3 months now!. We have hit it off very well and have fallen in love!. I have never cared so much for a girl in my entire life, and i want whats best for her!. She has had bipolar for many years now and is taking medication that really seems to help her!. She does seem to slip into a manic and depressive stages a lot what can i do or say to help her when she is in these stages!? when she does seem to be down i listen (which i know is a huge part of any relationship ) i tell her everything will be alright but sometimes this doesn't seem to work and its the last thing she wants to hear!. Ive been researching bipolar and i seem to understand the disorder but she doesn't sometimes think i do!. i tell her all the time that im there for her, i only want what is best for her!. what are some other things i can do to let her know i am 100% committed and totally supportive of her, and just be there for her when she does go through certain stages!? I love her to death and only want what is best for her!Www@Answer-Health@Com

When she is in these phases, dont tell her not to do this!. dont tell her what to do period, unless of course she's runing in traffic saying she's jesus, or about to kill herself!. dont tell her you know how she feels or that you understand her either, that will make her frustrated!. Just be there for her, comfort her!. thats the best u can do!. You can talk for hours and it wouldnt change her mind in the least!. its not her fault, its a brain disorder!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She is not going to realize that she is manic or depressed, just listen and be there when she is!. When she is baseline talk to her so she can see that she had been manic or depressed, because whoever manages her medication needs to know that she is not stabilized it is possible for these manic and depressive episodes to pretty much stop if medication is working, but meds are always needing monitored and changed by a doctor as needed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try going to www!.nami!.org!. They can find someone who is bipolar or in love with someone bipolar who can answer your questions and be a peer counselor for you!. It helps to talk to someone in the same situation!.

Instead of telling her it will be alright, try just listening to her!. Ask her what she would like from you!. She may not want advice or reassurance, just the comfort of knowing you're there!. Try reading "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" especially the chapter on listening!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You know, I don't have any knowledge about bipolar but the fact that you spend time to research about this, is so admirable!. Your girl friend should feel so lucky to have such a support system from you!. I really admire you!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I like your kindness, she is very lucky to have you to support her!. there is another word bipolar it is manic depressive, what are you doing for yourself at the moment, when you are a care you sometimes forget about yourself and if burn out happens to you you wont be able to help I am a little concerned that you are feeling as if you have to reassure of your love all the time that can be draining to both of you
manic disorder she knows she is not well she needs to hear lets get in to a support group together and find new friends that would be a good thing

the very best of health to both of you Www@Answer-Health@Com

One thing if she is still experiencing "highs and lows" her meds aren't working!. When you are on the right medications, and with bi-polarism there is usually a combination of meds!. One thing I can say to you is don't ever throw the fact that she is "bi-polar" in her face!. Don't ever use the terms "crazy", "have you taken your meds", "slow down", etc!. And remember regardless she is still human and female!. She will have mood swings and you will never be perfect!. There might be some things that bother her about you!. All I can say is listen to her, and don't pre-judge, thinking she's just "on one" or "crazy"!. Her feelings are still legitimate!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a 7 year old daughter who is bi-polar, and a few friends with the disorder too!.!.!.
The first thing you need to realize is that when people with this disorder are manic, there is no reasoning with them!. They will not accept anything that you say for any reason!. You need to make shure that she is ALWAYS taking her medications!. Many people who are bi polar start to feel better and then decide that they no longer need their meds and just stop taking them, only to have a sever manic or depressive eppisode a week or two later!. I have seen the worse of a manic eppisode with a friend walking down the street in next to no clothes thinking playboy was comming to take her, then a few days later after i thought i had gotten her calmed down she started talking about killing someone in graphic detail, as well as herself!. Sadly she had to be hospitalized and it was all because she thought she didn't need her meds!. If your girl is in an eppisode either manic or depressive the best thing for you to do is to LISTEN!. sometimes that is the best thing to do, if she is manic it may be hard to keep up with what she is saying but if you love her do it!. Tell her you understand what she is saying and you are there to listen, but do not give advice unless she asks for it, this will only piss her off more!.!.!.!.!. i don't know why but that is just the way that the disorder works!.
A final note is this: you have to be a strong person to be able to deal with the problems of someone who's meds are not controlling their disease, there is many switching of meds involved at times and sometimes they don't work as they are supoce to!.!.!.!. keep in mind also that the meds are to help balance the person!.!. they are not a "cure all" the person will have episodes still, no drug can stop that!. They will however with the right mix of drugs keep them comming much less, and when they do come they won't be as bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
