Question: I think I have depression, but am embarrassed to tell my mum or a doctor, what should I do!?
I think I may have depression, but I'm too embarrassed to tell my mum as she thinks I have nothing to be sad about!.
The past year I've lost all my friends who ditched me for guys and I've just been through a hectic final year of school!.
I've lost almost 8kg this year from stress but I was never heavy to begin with and as a result I'm not severely anaemic and have other health issues!. The past three weeks I haven't left the house once except to walk the dog and I haven't spoken to anyone from school or really anyone in months!.
I'm having trouble sleeping and keep waking up sweating from nightmares, and I just cry all the time! I have no idea what's wrong with me but I've tried everything!.!.I've tried eating more, i force myself to excercise atleast an hour a day to improve my mood!.!.!.but nothing!.
I feel so alone and helpless and i don't know if things will get better!. This whole year has made me believe life isn't worth living, but I don't want to be a miserable person and I don't want to have a 'victim' attitude!.
What do I do!.!.!.I would see a doctor, but what would I say!.!.!."i think i'm crazy!.!.!.i think i'm depressed!.!.!."!?

work up the courage to say something to your doctor!. be specific about your problems!. i did and I was really glad i did because it was 10,000 less times awkward than i thought it would be!. people can surprise you - they can be really understandingWww@Answer-Health@Com

don't be embarrassed to tell your mom!. the best way to get help is from a doctor because there are special doctors that help people with depression!. don't hold it inside you because it will only get worse!. please get help!. tell your mom and your doctor!. good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

depression is a disorder not something u get from life its a chemical imbalance in the brain tell her that and also that u wish to see a psychiatrist to help you with your depressionWww@Answer-Health@Com

Dear Friend!. I have read your question!. Really you need some help to overcome your mental trouble!. First of all you must take morning as well as evening walk regularly without fail for at least one hour and take also exercise as you done already!. Before going to bed you must feel happy and do not think for nightmares as these are creation of your unconcious mind and you will feel happy after some time!. But I assure you that if you act upon my advice for taking regular morning as well as evening walk daily for at least six kms, you will overcome your problems after a fortnight!. Sorry to hear your feeling depressed!. Do you know it is very common your last year of school!. Your facing alot of changes and pressure!. But do tell your Mom she should understand and also she may have suffered from this also!. First the doctor will try to find if there is a physical cause!. Like anemia which you said you have or maybe evethyroid problem!. Then maybe a couselor if nothing shows up!. There are also medication options!. Try to eat better and join the YMCA or health club to get some exercise!. Natural endorphins will be stimulated with exercise helping you feel better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well, you ARE staying indoors too much! You should get some sunlight!. When people deprive themselves too much of sunlight, you can get depressed!. Eat chocolate, unless you can't eat it or don't like it!. Watch sunsets, I believe it releases endorphins as exercise does!. Eat a balanced died with lean protein and VEGGIES!. Foods affect moods!. A lot of that stuff is happening to me too, but you just got to stay positive and realize that it really isn't all that bad and there are much worse situations than that, trust me on that one!. Exercising won't do that much unless you eat well, in my opinion, and from what I have experienced!. If I were you, I would read the purpose driven life by rick warren!. try making some new friends and get out more, force yourself you can do it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why would you be embarassed!? Would you be embarassed about having the flu!?

I read your further comments!. Depression has a strong biological/genetic component!. Go see a doctor!. Under ordinary circumstances, self reliance and try to work your way through problems by yourself is admirable!.

But, these aren't ordinary circumstances, go see a doctor!. And perhaps your mum will as well!.

By the way, seeking help when needed and help is easily available doesn't mean you have a victim attitude!. It just means your smart!. As a matter of fact, doing nothing and just sort of wishing that things will get better or things will change is more of a victim mentality than seeking out medical treatment!. If you are sure your mother won't help you, go see the counselor at school!. If that won't work, talk with your minister!. Do you have a father!? It is perfectly okay to say to a doctor, "I think I'm crazy!.!.!. I think I'm depressed!." God bless you for continuing to try, and I will tell you, life is not likely to get really great, but it should be far better than yours is right now!.

I'm so sorry you're going through this!. I have had recurrent depression since I was a teenager, so I do know how you feel!. It can--and will--get better!. I promise!.

It does sound as if you might have depression!. Depression is not
"being sad," it's a medical and psychological condition!. It can be triggered or made worse by events, but it is basically a chemical imbalance in your brain!. They don't know a lot about it, but there is a significant amount of evidence that it's tied to heredity!. One of the worst things about depression is that it makes you believe that you can't solve it, or that you can't talk to a parent or doctor!.

Please try to talk to your mother about this!. Just because she's depressed doesn't mean she doesn't care about you and want to help!. In fact, it might mean she understands more than most people would!.

Please also talk to your doctor!. You don't have to say you think you're crazy, because you're not!. But do say "I think I'm depressed" and tell him or her what you've written here!. Doctors hear that every day, and your doctor is not going to laugh at you or brush you off!. Depression is incredibly common, and your doc probably has lots of patients who have started conversations that way!.

What your mother obviously doesn't understand is that depression has nothing to do with being sad about anything!. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes the symptoms!.
Don't be afraid or embarrassed to tell your doctor!. Depression is a very common problem and he will not be the least bit shocked or think anything negative about you!.
Without help, you may get worse and you don't want to live your life like this everyday!.
