How do you treat SAD?!

Question: How do you treat SAD!?
I have seasonal affective disorder!. I've considered getting a light box, but don't know what spectrum light is necessary!. Does anyone know or do you know of other treatments that work well and please do not recommend drugs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Full spectrum light therapy is one treatment!. Increasing the amount of natural light you get is another, in other words taking down all blinds and window shades during winter and spending at least 1/2 hour outside each day!. Exercise can help to ellevate your mood and regulate sleep schedules as well as eating healthy and that can help fend off depression to a large degree as well!. Vitamin D is one of the main nutrients lacking during winter and has been shown that supplements may indeed improve the moods of people with SAD!. Other than that and medication, the other option is of course moving to a place that has a sunnier, warmer, climate during the winter months!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I recommend Vitamin D supplements!. My roommate had terrible SAD for years and started to take the Vitamin D and now he swears by it!. It's Vitamin D-3, 2000 IU!. Vitamin D is the "sunshine" vitamin!.

Also if you can get outside during the day for a few minutes it is supposed to help!. But you have to look at the direct sunlight - it has to actually get into your eyes to help (that's what my therapist told me anyway)!. 15 minutes would be good!.

I do know of the light therapy but you should shop around and see what has actually worked for people!. Some of them are different from others!. My therapist actually has SAD as well and the light she got didn't really help her!. I'm sure they are improving them all the time though!.

Good luck to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just buy a SAD lamp to get your light!. They are a bit costly though!. They go around $200, but remember, these lamps will serve you probably for the rest of your life!. I don't know the specifics of how to use it in your case, but typically, 15-20 minutes of light a day solves the problem!.

Happy Holidays!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There's some places you can go to that treats SAD!. There's some places that have light therapy which is highly recommended for people diagnosed with SAD!. Hope that helps =)Www@Answer-Health@Com
