What disorder if any is similar to the schizoid personality disorder?!

Question: What disorder if any is similar to the schizoid personality disorder!?
I'm about to add a lot of detail: reading it is not important if you do not want to!.

In my first two years of high school, my mother sent me to a counselor for social anxiety!. That continued for a little while until I realized that I wasn't necessarily anxious around people- I just didn't want to be around them!. It's not that I was scared to go to the movies with a friend, or go shopping or spend the night, it was just because I didn't want to!. This concerned me (and to be honest it still does from time to time), because I was convinced it wasn't normal to not want to be around people!.

In my junior year, I attempted at being something I wasn't- social!. Now, I realize how silly it was to try to force myself to be something just because I felt that was the normal way!.

I keep in mind that there may be nothing wrong with me- it's just who I am and I'm quite happy being who I am for the most part (there is always room from improvement in everyone)

However I've been trying to, if possible on my own, find a name to what I have personality/mental wise (if there is something wrong or different at all, that is)!.

I came across the schizoid personality disorder, and after reading several articles on it, I was quite surprised on how it resembles how I am quite a bit: very individualistic, rather be without the social interactions (not out of anxiety), and engulfed in a sort of "imaginary world" a lot of the time without loosing touch with what is real and what is not (at that point, it might have become schizophrenia)!.

While this seems to describe me, many of the articles mention an "indifference to praise or criticisms" and being "emotionally cold"!.
These things do not describe me very well!. If someone praises me on my work, it's great!. If they criticize me, I use the criticism to improve!. While I've been told I have "no personality" or (on the other side of the scale) I always seem pleasant, I have a range of emotion just like everyone does though I may not show it to the world !. I also care about other people quite a bit, which seems the opposite of being emotionally "cold"!.

These differences in me and what is describes as the schizoid personality disorder makes me wonder if there is something else similar to this disorder!.
Anyone know of something!?

I am fully aware only a professional can properly diagnose these things!. However, I'm not sure if I really want or need to go see someone!. What's the point!?
If I go to see someone, it may only be to quell my curiosity!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hello

I am wondering at this point why you desire to put a name to your asocial proclivities!? Many psychological dispositions are labeled these days only for medication purposes, if medication is needed!. Hardly anyone fits perfectly into a specific disorder though!. Therapists don't even bother telling you what you "have" because most of them think it is harmful to the therapy!.

There are a lot of things about schizoid disorder and all psychological disorders that don't precisely fit those who are diagnosed with them!. You could be a schizoid personality type who does respond to praise and criticism, and who does care genuinely for other people!. Even those with schizoid disorder will sometimes have one or two close friends!. And keep in mind that you can't know if you seem emotionally cold to OTHERS-- a schizoid would not imagine themselves being emotionally cold!. They think extremely highly of themselves, so they probably imagine that they are perfectly warm and inviting to others!.

The thing with schizoid personalities, as with most other extreme psychological states, is that the person has no idea that there is anything abnormal about their behavior!. And if they do know there is something abnormal, then they think that they're completely right to think and behave the way that they do!. They think that they are special and everyone else is just blind to the neat stuff they know!.

So!.!.!. I guess if you are aware of your social needs to the point that you think you might have some schizoid tendencies, then that's great!. It means you are aware and not delusional!. That means in the case that you might diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder, it could be treated through therapy-- if it even needs to be treated at all!.

You could probably live the rest of your life very happily and not be very social!. There's NOTHING wrong with that!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have two sons, one is an extrovert he always has to be around people, interacting and doing things with them!. I have another who is an introvert, he isn't interested in always being out there, he is perfectly happy and content with a friend or two and just being at home doing the things he enjoys doing at home!. You sound like an introvert!. There is nothing wrong with either of these it is just different types of personalites!. I love both the same but my son who is the introvert is the one who is the kindest and thinks and likes others!. You may be just an introvert I can tell you that trying research on the internet on medical or physical subjects can scare you and cause you to see symptoms that aren't really serious!. If you feel that this is affecting or interrupting your life in anyway then do see a professional for a diagnosisWww@Answer-Health@Com
