Does anyone know what could be wrong with my friend's husband?!

Question: Does anyone know what could be wrong with my friend's husband!?
He's in his late 60's, has been retired together with his wife for over 5 years and for the past few months, he's been having black/dark moods and is very depressed!. He's only been like this for several months and he keeps telling his wife to keep away from him as "I'm likely to lash out at you"!. He's only like this with his wife and he's now in a mental health hospital as, his words to the doctors, "I'm not leaving this place until you find out what's wrong with me"!. So, in one way, he knows he has something wrong!. Does anyone know what it could be!? The lastest is he is awaiting a result on a scan and is still in the mental health hospital!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

After working for a considerable period in job with fixed routine it is not easy to digest retirement as retirement period is not taken easily by all!. Retirement means creation of additional 8 to 10 hours daily in one's life with no work!.

In my opinion, he must engage himself in some activity to keep busy!. It would also be advisable for those nearing retirement to look out for part time job well in advance to escape above problems!.

Thanks for intelligent question!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

there are 2 big categories -

It sounds like he has severe depression!. When you have depression you know there is something wrong with you but can't change anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like simple depression which is common as people get older and they think about their life!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like severe depression!. The reason he reacts more to his wife is she is the one who he loves the most!. As he's getting older he's probably thinking about what things will be like when he slips off his mortal coil, what is going to happen to her!? He may have feelings of lashing out as he doesn't know how better to express his worries, concerns and feelings!. The threat of violence is more out of frustration and anger at himself rather than his wife!.

I'm afraid to say that this is unlikely to change without prescription drugs!. Once he is on these he'll be back to normal and hopefully lead a long and happy retirement with his family and friends!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
