CALLING SOMEONE FAT, WILL IT MAKE THEM GET A EATING DISORDER ?!

Question: CALLING SOMEONE FAT, WILL IT MAKE THEM GET A EATING DISORDER !?
my little brother makes calls every now and then to my little sister for example, your so fat, shut up fatty!.!.
this distresses me as i am still in recovery from a fairly serious ED
i am so scared my sister will end up the same and as much as i ask my little bro to stop he will do it again in a couple weeks time!.!.!.
When i got sick my 8 year old sister started restricting and asking my step mum if she ate to much!.!.!. i am so worried for my little sis!.!.
am i over reacting!?!? or can this cause an ED especially because i had one and she has seen how it works in detail!?!?
thanks so much please help i am so worriedWww@Answer-Health@Com

It won't necessarily "give" someone an eating disorder - I know people who've been called fat plently of times (even when they aren't) and haven't got any EDs!. However, it's kind of you to be looking out for your sister! If you notice any warning signs (for example, your sister looking very miserable, asking if she eats too much again, going off her food or changing her eating habits in any way at all) you could try mentioning it to your parent or guardian - even if it doesn't lead to her getting an eating disorder, it can't be nice to be picked on by her own brother!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would think that is a very dangerous thing for your brother to say to your little sister!. I would definitely do anything to stop him saying stuff like that to her, especially considering your struggle with an ED and the fact that she obviously is at risk as well!.
Thats like telling a suicidal person to go kill them self, i would be worried!.
Explain to your brother the harm he is doing to her, and how bad would he feel if she were to risk death with an ED and how he maybe contributing to her getting one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It can't 'make' them get an eating disorder, but it can Influence the person if they're easily influenced or have a weak sense of self!.

For instance if people called me fat, It wouldn't lead me to an eating disorder, because I don't care what people think!.

But for someone who cares about others opinions about their physical appearance, and takes these things to heart, it could have devastating consequences, and that boy needs to be disciplinedWww@Answer-Health@Com

No the only person that makes you fat is you!.Confidence boosters and positive words go a long way though, I would throw them in now and thenWww@Answer-Health@Com

yes id say it can cause an eating disorder!.!.!.i have read real life accounts where a girl is already a little upset with her figure and then someone like her bf calls her fat and then it slowly gets worse and worse!.!.!.i think that if someone has issues, then calling them fat can be the trigger, and set it off when it would otherwise have lain dormant!. Your little bor should be ashamed!! seriously, I would do all I could to make him stop!.!.!.!.its a sexist insult too, if hes gonna insult her why make it about her gender too!?!? making a remark on figure becomes about 1000x more likely if its a women!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Calling someone fat is a terrible thing even if they are overweight!. You didnt say how old your brother is but he needs to stop because now aday he may tease someone at school and they will hurt him!. I am sure he isnt perfect maybe if there is something about him like pimples or something you could tease him and see how he likes it!. After all beauty is only skin deep!.Your sister may have a thyroid problem!. Good luck and tell your brother what goes around comes around!! No I dont think it will make her have a eating disorder but it may hurt her self esteemWww@Answer-Health@Com
