You're entitled to some help NOW if these attacks are disrupting your everyday life!. I'm surprised your GP hasn't started you on a course of, say, SSRI antidepressants like Prozac or Seroxat which can be useful in treating anxiety disorders!. Go back to your GP and say you need some kind of help while you're waiting for an appointment with the psychiatrist!. If he/she won't prescribe - and doesn't give a satisfactory reason why not - make an appointment to see a different GP at the practise immediately!. Don't be fobbed off!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Hi Yes GP's can perscribe anti-anxiety medications and you have a every right to ask for something, even if its a mild dose to help in bad times!.
however even though you have every right to ask and may get a positive response, they may also simply ask for you to wait to see the psychiatrist who can better assess you and perscribe treatment!. Also as you have only been suffering from the panic attacks for a month yoru gp may want to wait to see if they dont just go away by themselves!.
If your unsure and need more advice and want to ask your gp to perscribe something i would definately encourage you to see your GP for another appointment!
best wishes

yes your family doctor can prescribe you something like diazipam, this is what i have for my panic attacks!. you MUST only take them when you need them the most, they are NOT an everyday thing as they are highly addictive, and comming off them would cause you more problem!. (they are fine as long as you dont abuse them)!.
also i would make sure they have set you up with a therapy called CBT or ACT as this is the best for anxiety,Www@Answer-Health@Com
