Calming panic attacks?!


Question: Calming panic attacks!?
I sometimes have anxiety attacks, at the moment I am going through some bad stuff and getting panic attacks, at least one a day!. Could anyone tell me any ways to calm myself down/relieve the attacks!? I don't feel like I'm worried or anything, but apparently it's normal for your mind to tell you that you aren't worried, to try and calm itself!. Serious answers please!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

For me I found that distraction was the best thing!. Keep yourself as busy as possible because then you don't have as much time to think!. But relaxation is also important!. Close your eyes and send your mind to somewhere that made you happy, or make it up if you want!.

If you feel yourself getting panicky, take a slow deep breath, tell yourself you have nothing to be worried about and then do something to take your mind away from the situation you're in!.

As a person who has suffered from panic attacks for years it can be devastating especially if you let it control you!. One of the best remedies that you can do is called "deep breathing exercises"!. What you have to do is concentrate on your breathing!. Breathe in (with mouth closed)!. Let out slowly (through mouth)!. Do it slowly otherwise you will have rapid breathing (then you won't be able to control the panic attack)It takes a few times to do !. You can do it anytime , anywhere and no one knows you are doing it!. Whatever you do if things get out of hand !.!.see a Dr!. meds may help!. Whatever you do try to control it yourself!. My therapist showed me a way to calm down when i have panic attacks!.
First you tap your third eye about 20 times (on your brow line inbetween your eyes)
Then you do the same, under your eye, your chin, your coller bone, and the side of your hand!.
After that think of a nice happy song and hum it in your head!.

The counting really helps even your breathing up, and the song makes you more relaxed!.

And try not to tap too hard!.!.!.!. i was having a really bad panic attack one day and i ended up with a black eye =/

Everyone suffers from a anxiety attack from time to time!. Just like minor forms of depression, we all go through it just some go through more serious types of them!. Many psychologists teach breathing techniques and ways to calm oneself if they feel one coming on!. For more serious and frequent attacks, a person may want to see a psychiatrist for certain medications to alleviate anxiety or panic attacks!. I think everyone who has panic attacks has their own proven method of dealing with it!. I do a technique called 'square breathing'!. The premise is that once you control the breath, you control the mind!. It is simply:
breathe in for 4 seconds
hold your breath for 4 seconds
breathe out for 4 seconds
hold your breath for 4 seconds
repeat until calm

I have heard many other things that other people say that help them!. My mother went through her thyroid getting out of whack and would get panic attacks!. She would close her eyes and imagine a bunch of wild horses running at her (symbolizing the panic) and when they got to her they would just flow around her as if they were made of water!. It worked for her!. I have also sat quietly and with my eyes closed, focused them between my eyebrows (pineal gland, third eye)!. That helps!.

From my own experience the hardest thing to do is to remember these things once you are already panicked!. I can know all the tools in the world, but if I forget them when I am panicked they do me no good!. I think it is a good idea to teach something like 'square-breathing' or whatever technique you find works to the people around you!. I have panic attacks as well!. I find concentrating on your breathing can help sometime!. Or it can send you into an even faster attack!. Focusing on something else can help!. Or your too anxious to see anything else! There are lots of methods to calm yourself down, but it's really up to you!. Everyone is different, so every panic attack can be calmed in a different way!. Although, a paper bag generally helps, even though you look like a complete spaz! =P

work out the situation in whcih the apanic attacks happen i!.e is it always at work or is it when ur in a shopping mall etc they usually relate to situations!. Then try and work out what it is about taht situation you find hard to handle!. Methods of CBT are about teaching yourself to think and react differently in such a situation and break the vicious circle that gets you into it!.
