Most definitely keep shopping around until you find the right Psychiatrist that gives him the right medicines that controls his episodes!. It is possible!. I am 34 and bipolar since 19, it has taken me years to find the right combination of meds!. I have been with my husband for 11 years and have done many horrible things to him!.
I don't remember a lot of them, but he will remind me!. I have been in the hospital many times too!. I have been blessed that my husband has stayed with me for this long, but he does monitor my medicine so I will take it, or I will forget!.
Bipolar people tend to think that!.!.!. I'm on meds to feel better!.!.!. meds are working, now don't need them!.!.!. then they stop meds!.!.!. then person gets sick again!. Bad cycle!. Watch for that!.
For your self esteem, you are still with him, and you are helping him, I think that's great!. You must love him a lot!. That's big!.
Just remember every time when he is having a mood swing that it is not your fault!. It is nothing you did and has nothing at all to do with you!. You are a great person who loves and cares for her family!.
I wish you the very best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only hope for someone who is bipolar is to get on the proper regemine of medications and stay on them!. a chemical imbalance!. Many primary care doctors think they can manage bipolar meds but cannot!. You need to see a Psychiatrist as this is their area of specialty!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The worst thing you can do is take his mood swings personally because what he says and does are not always going to be the way he really feels, especially when he is having an episode!. I have gone through this with my brother and the best thing you can do is provide an ear and ride out the storm!. Even if he is being extremely confrontational and wants a fight don't give it to him!. You don't have to agree with his point of view but you can say "I see where you are coming from" or "I respect your perspective on this issue"!. I would take him to a psychiatrist that specializes in bi-polar disorder because many doctors think that they know what they are doing when they really don't!. It might suck for you but you are going to want to monitor his medications because without them it can get bad, and people with bi-polar disorder are often in denial about needing their meds!. The only way to keep you self esteem up is to enjoy the good times and ride out the bad!. If you have been dating him for two years then you knew he has problems, and if you don't want to deal with them then thats up to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
