Depression can be caused by genes (you inherit it in your family), caused by environment (death/loss of loved one), or biochemical (imbalance in the brain)!.

To get help you can join a support group, join an online support forum, talk to a therapist, talk to a friend/family member, medication, and take care of yourself (exercise and eat right)!.

Different types of depression:

Major Depression - This is the most serious type of depression talking about the number of symptoms and severity of the symptoms

Dysthymic Disorder - This refers to a low to moderate level of depression that persists for at least two years, and most often longer!.

Unspecified Depression - Used to help researchers who are studying other specific types of depression, including people with a serious depression, but not quite severe enough to have a diagnosis of a major depression!. It also includes people with chronic, moderate depression, which has not been going on long enough for a diagnosis of a Dysthymic disorder

Adjustment Disorder, with Depression - Depression that occurs in response to a major life stressor or crisis!.

Bipolar Depression - includes both high and low mood swings and a variety of other significant symptoms not present in other depressions!.

Many things can cause depression!. Right down to having a family member - aunt, uncle (remember they share your DNA) who has suffered from depression!. Check it out!.

Google symptoms of depression and see if any of these apply to you!. So you can talk to a doctor intelligently about how you are feeling!. I am an advocate of medication, just remember that the doctor works for you and they want to help you feel better!. You do not have to stay on meds forever - just until you feel better!.
