How do I tell my parents that I have an anxiety disorder?!

Question: How do I tell my parents that I have an anxiety disorder!?
I know I have an anxiety disorder because I've taken many tests online!. I get stressed, I'm scared of the future, large crowds, being left alone!.!.!. I'm always tired, but I can't sleep because I get nightmares!. I'm constantly worrying about my health!. I get muscle pains!. My neck and back is always sore!.

I love my parents, but they're just not very understanding!. I've been trying to tell them about my anxiety disorder a while ago and they just snapped at me!. They don't believe me as our family is full of over-achievers and they won't let me get a proper doctor diagnosis~

How would I tell my parents, in a convincing way, that I need to see a doctor!? I just need them to understand at least this one thing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
My parents had trouble understanding my depression and OCD when they first found out about it!. It's very difficult for go-getters who've never had problems functioning normally (quite the opposite, in fact) to understand something so illogical and strange as mental illness!. My parents were a little less hostile than yours, however, and as they've watched me struggle for the last three years, they've come to accept my issues to the best of their abilities!. It's still bewildering for them to see someone who is very capable and was once an over-achiever to now struggle to get out of bed, let alone have the motivation to excell at school and work!.

I wish I had more suggestions to help, but this is what I can come up with: see the school nurse/chaplain/counseler about getting a diagnosis from a doctor!. Maybe the opinion of a professional will sway them!. Also, try talking to them again!. And again!. And again!. Make them listen, and don't take no for an answer!. Don't try to bottle your anxiety up, let them see the effects it has on you!. I believe that once they come out of denial, and acknowledge your condition they will much rather accept the fact that you suffer from a mental/medical problem rather than if you were just "below par" for the family!.

Wish you all the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try and barter with them, for firsts!. Tell them that, for one visit to a psychiatrist or therapist, you'll do chores A, B, and C!.

Or ask them if they'll take you under the conditions that, if the doctor says there's nothing wrong with you, you'll never bother them with it again!.

Sorry to hear that your parents are so misunderstanding!.

Oh, you could also try talking to the school counselor during your breaks and lunches!. That could help, too!.

Good luck!. Anxiety sucks!. :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

draw a small little picture book on how you feel, and also about them not believing you!. I find that horrible!.
