Would i know if i had ADD, autism , aspergers , OCD or bi-polar?!

Question: Would i know if i had ADD, autism , aspergers , OCD or bi-polar!?
basically im 31 now, suffered a very hard, tough life, years ago i was diagnose with borderline personality disorder and my psychiatrist accepted i have symptoms of PTSD disorder to!.

in the past my symptoms have been : impulsive outbursts of rage in public, difficult controlling aggression and rage ; antisocial anger towards people ; spacing out ( dissociation ) - persecutory paranoia , agoraphobia , intense panic and anxiety feelings when outside , palpitations ; a feeling of feeling abandoned and out of control : always found it difficult to concentrate and absorb information : ( although ive read books and understood them ) : keep having to re read sentences to understand them : mind drifts off whilst reading a page of words!.

always had low self esteem, difficulty interacting, forming and maintaining friendships !. im very intellectual and are often told im very intelligent, understand things well, talk well , and have a good mind!. have a good imagination!. can converse very well!.

as a kid was quite hyperactive, always running around , but calmed alot into teenage years!.

my mind always races every day, racing thoughts, keep forgetting things , my mind feels scattered with thoughts, difficulty trying to organise and structure!.
have obsessive worrying thoughts about physical, mental health!.

now those are all the symptoms i can think of that ive always experienced!.

ive NOT been diagnosed with ADD , aspergers , autism , ocd or bi polar - and my psychiatrist was adamant i dont have those disorders!.

iam presently working with the mental health services although the therapy i want is not available ( psychotherapy ) because of lack of resources and funding, i have to accept what theyre offering which is an OT worker to go out into society to help me get integrated because ive been reclusive a long time now!.!.

i want to know from what i described does it sound like i have any of the disorders mentioned !?

is it important if i have them to get them diagnosed and treated !?

if i do have those disorders would i know it !? and would they prevent me from getting on with life like education and career and learning etc !?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It does not sound like bi-polar to me!. People with bipolar disorder generally cycle from mania to depression over the course of weeks or months, not hours!. Such dramatic changes in mood sound more like borderline personality disorder!. I just wanted to clarify, since "BPD" stands for bipolar disorder and also borderline personality disorder and I wasn't sure which one you meant!. As for the other disorders: all of your issues sound like borderline personality disorder to me!. My mom has that so I'm rather familiar with it!. The fact that your doctor said you didn't have the other disorders indicates to me that you likely don't!.

Being borderline interferes with concentration because your emotions are so close to the surface and so dramatic!. So I think in a certain sense, all borderlines have attention deficits!. But I haven't heard of them eing treated for attention issues because as far as I know, ADD is considered more of a stand-alone diagnosis!. If attention problems can be linked to another psychological disorder, then they treat that disorder, not ADD!.

You'd know if you were autistic!. Bare minimum, you'd not have spoken till age 4 or later, and had serious language deficits!. So I'd say no, you're not autistic!.

Asperger's is part of the autism spectrum, and some of its traits can be quite subtle!. Some of the interpersonal connection issues can be a bit superficially similar to those with borderline!. But I think you'd know if you had it!.

A lot of people with OCD don't know they have it--they think that they're behaving normally!. Like, a person with OCD who washes his hands all the time thinks he does it because he's dirty, whereas an outsider could easily see he's doing it due to an obsession!. I would go along with your doctor's assessment in this area, he knows best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have asperger's!.!. you definately do not!. it sounds like extreme bi-polar!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They're not part of the Autistic Spectrum!.
More associated with depression I would think!.
I have an Autistic nephew and I have had a relative with a Borderline Personality Disorder!. BPD is characterised by behaviour that hurts others and the individual concerned, but with no conscience, ie, the person does not feel any guilt or see any wrong doing on their part when they behave badly!.
I'm not a medical professional by the way, but I have experience of a child with autism and an adult with BPD (who was very difficult to deal with and did not have low self esteem, more a heightened sense of their own importance)!. The only thing you can do is continue to see your psychiatrist, who has the real medical/psychiatric knowledge!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have bipolar and what you describe is not bipolar as I know it, but I'm not a doctor!. I think it sounds like you want more labels so that you can get more sympathy!. If you want a word of advice from someone whose life has been destroyed by psychiatric labels, I would consider carefully what you try to get yourself labelled with!. These labels stay with you forever and if you wish to achieve you goals, and I believe and hope very much that you will do, then the less labels you have the less of a struggle you will have to achieve them!. I can see that it important - very - to get the correct treatment and diagnoses but please don't start looking into more and more labels as I want to see you on that beach one day with a golden tan I would die for with a beauty on your arm that all the other men will be green with envy that you have what they don't!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would say your bi-polar my self!. but i not a psychiatrist i would ask for a second opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
