Are they a therapist or a psychiatrist!? A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication!. They would ask you about your symptoms and decide if you need medicine!. If it it a therapist they may do some psychological testing, answering multiple choice question about yourself and stuff like looking at pictures and telling them a story about it!. They may just ask you what is going on!. Be as honest as you can with them, they are there to help not get you in trouble!. They may have to tell your mom you are cutting yourself if they think you could really hurt yourself!. Ask the therapist what she has to report to your parents and what she has to keep secret!. She cannot lie to you!. She will probably just ask you a bunch of question and help you decide where you want to go from there to help!. It can be a little uncomfortable at first but can be very helpful if you are open to it!. Just try doing what they suggest and be as honest as you can!. Don't be afraid to ask them questions also!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The therapist can't tell your mother anything unless its completely life-threatening!. That's patient-doctor confedentiality thats a rule!.
You should just expect him or her to ask a lot of questions, you might fill out a sheet with questions, or you two might just talk!. Your mom doesn't have to be there with you unless you want her to!. You can ask your mom to let it be a private conversation with ur therapist!. She'll understand!. Well, when I saw a therapist for the first time she asked me a lot of questions!. They will try not to judge and try to find out why you do what you do!. It will feel weird, and pretty awkward but talking to someone about -everything- is the first step to getting it all fixed!.

For me I had to see a child psychologist (because I was under 18 at this time) and I just sat down and she asked a bunch of questions, don't expect to just tell her everything on your first appointment!. They are nice people, and they have heard a lot about people with similar problems so when you get asked a question, just give them the most honest answer you can!

i was nervous the first time too!. the first time most psychiatrists have your mom come in so they can tell her what the 'rules' are (like their privacy conditions) and how often you'll be meating and such!. after that your mom WILL NOT be in the room!. the psychiatrist will tell your mom if you continue to cut (not if it's in the past) and if you're planning on hurting you or anyone around you!. i'm not sure but i also think if you're doing anything illigal such as drugs!. my first concilor i was seeing when my mom knew nothing about my cutting or anything else!. i could not open up to my therapist because i was afraid for my mom to find out!. but i later told my mom everything (except one minor thing) and now my mom is truly able to find the right people for me and is currently a great help while i try to recover!. i would recomend telling your mom so that you can open up to your psychiatrist!. if you can not open up to them, it will do little good and you'll still be in pain!. if you decide to tell your mom i would recomend telling her that you're not trying to kill yourself, but to release your pain (if you like the pain saying you're trying to get rid of your mental pain is better than explaining why you like the pain)!. i'm not telling you this to make you feel like you have to pour everything out, but just so you can get the help that you need!. i was also nervous about talking to someone but it will help in the long run!. also no your mom should not be there during the appointments!. the therapist will talk to you alone!. this should be able to help you and if you have any other questions AT ALL please feel free to email me :) i'll be praying for you honey and know that you will see the light again!.!.!.i can say that when i wish for death every single second so i know that you will be able to too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First off, Thank you for acknowledging you have a problem and need help!. Alot of people don't get to that point!.What will happen is you will go into a room where you and the therapist are!., if you don't want your mother there that is your right, and she and the therapist has to agree to it!.What you tell the therapist stays in that room, he or she cannot tell anybody what you talk about unless you say it's all right!. regardless if you are a minor or not what is spoken in that room stays it that room!.If the doctor feels that you need to be put on some treatment that requires you to take meds, then the doctor will just tell your parents that your condition needs medicine to help you!. But beware because the therapist might feel that part of your depression could be the results of what is going on in your house, maybe not just you needs a therapist maybe the whole family might need to do a group session, but even then the therapist cannot tell your parents what was said during your sessions!. They play little games, they get you to tell your parents how you have been feeling and what you have been doing(cutting) during the session also be careful on how you talk to them (therapist) because you are a minor if you tell them you want to die or kill someone, changes are they can lock you up in the funny farm!.If they ask you do you feel like hurting yourself or others at this very moment, tell them no!.You might of had that feeling before but you don't have it now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
