Are counselors always right?!

Question: Are counselors always right!?
I'm 16, and I told my counselor about something that had happened to me recently, which was my family's reason for going!. I brought a little plush puppy that my boyfriend got me, just because I thought it would be comforting to hold on to something when I had to explain what had happened!. It helped, but I was still crying a little of course!. My parents came in and she started explaining to them what I had told her, and I started crying harder because it was obviously hard to hear!. She told me I was "acting like a five year old" for crying and holding my puppy!. She couldn't get my name right!. When deciding I wanted to move on from this as soon as possible, she told me I was being immature because I should seek help!. No crap I should seek help, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't want to be okay again as quick as I can!. She called me immature about three times!. Um, I just suffered from something horrible and I have no idea how to go about it - how does she think calling me names is going to give me a better idea!? She even asked if I was lying about what had happened and looked at me funny when I was explaining somethings, as if she knew she was going to dislike or not believe what I was about to say!. It really bothered me, because I got no help and just ended up feeling worse!. I felt insulted!. Even my mom was like, 'alright, that wasn't as professional as we hoped it would be'!. Is it me thats weird, or are some counselors just not right for some people!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Counselors are not infallible - they go to school, pass their exams, put in the hours, then get jobs!. Just because they're qualified, it doesn't mean they're going to practice what they've learned!.

Not knowing your name, openly showing distaste, and getting personally insulting at first meeting is unacceptable!. I would say follow your gut and find a new counselor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NOBODY is "always" right!. Counselors are human- too!. In YOUR situation, it sounds like EVERYBODY was "over-reacting" at the time!.!.!. But THAT Time is past!. If you still think your Counselor is not the Right One for you, then tell your Parents WHY you think so, & maybe you can get another!.!.!. Good Luck! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Absolutely not!. I've had more that basically sucked than good ones!. Even the really "nice" one I had didn't really help me! It's a darn shame that people being paid to help other people can suck so bad!. Good luck - perhaps you can find another one, or perhaps a group would be better, or just even reading stuff or talking it out with friends, etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

oh hell no!. i had a counselor when i was in my 2nd year of university!. i was really distressed and upset and felt really bad about myself at one point!. my bf went with me cos i asked him to and cos it's my first time seeing a counselor of sort!. she started accusing me for "not really wanting to be there" when i couldn't pinpoint what my problem was and said that i need to "want help" instead of being dragged by my bf to be helped!. she would constantly interrupt me when i was talking, and there's this one time i was stupid enough to confess that i cut myself superficially she said i wasn't in the right place and referred me to the ER!. guess what!? i never went back to her :'D
but then again, i've had one pretty nice counselor who really did help me a lot =)
good luck and take care hun!Www@Answer-Health@Com
