Question: The feeling of depression is often looked at as unacceptable, what do you think about it!?
Do you believe it is as negative as said!? For instance, could it be positively good for a person to hit that "low" point!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Depression has always been a bit taboo!. A lot of it is the fact that it is a mental illness, and therefore, it's not something you can see, or easily recognize or even diagnose, which scares a lot of people!.

There's still a lot of "old-school" thought out there, which is the "pull yourself together/buck your ideas up/cheer up" mentality!. The one that tickles me is - "it's all in your head"!. (My response to that is - yes it is!)

Most people just need a bit more educating about mental illness, just because you have the label, doesn't mean you're a worthless member of society, or a danger to others, it's just something you can't always control!. With depression, the person doesn't know they have it themselves, which makes it harder to understand!. It's not like I could go to the doctors, and say I have depression, help! Only now when I know the symptoms can I recognize it for what it is!.

Another problem with depression and society is the old - use depression as an excuse not to work!. Because it is not visible externally, a lot of work shirkers use it for benefits, which, in turn, casts a bad light on genuine sufferers!.

As for the "could it be positively good for a person to hit that low point", I'm undecided, and I think it should me merited on a case by case study!. For me, yes, it was a good thing, as a lot of my own unresolved issues had to be tackled!. Sure, I was as low as could be, but through counseling etc!. I'm a lot better than I was!. For some people though, I'm not sure if it is a good thing to hit rock bottom!. It all depends on if the person is strong enough to get through, and if they have the support available and accessible to them, and if their symptoms are diagnosed early enough before it gets so bad, the only way out that they can see is suicide!.

Great question, made me stop and think! Sorry for the slightly sermon-type answer :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

Living with depression 5+ years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Having suffered depression for 6 years I don't think it should be frowned upon at all!. I don't think some people realise how hard it is to suffer depression until they actually experience it themselves!. Every day is a struggle, it doesn't just cause suffering to the individual suffering the depression but it also affects the people closest to the individual!. Sometimes it is positive for someone to hit a low point as sometimes after that the only way is up!. Although sometimes a low point isn't actually a low point and an individual can go on to seriously hurting themselves!.!.!.which can lead to relief, but can also lead to a more serious attempt at hurting themselves!.!.!.sometimes even at an individuals life!.

I'm not saying everyone who has depression reaches this point!.!.!.I believe it depends on experiences, help available and the individual, but there is a significant increase in self-harm and suicide in those suffering from depression!. Every individual in the world has different experiences but everyone in the world also has a different coping threshold!.

So!.!.!.do you think depression is looked at as unacceptable!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Positively good in the sense that that person deserves it!?

Depression isn't a positive thing no matter how you look at it!. However, I can't and will not understand why it is sometimes unacceptable!.

People often do not understand what depression really is!. They may think that the person is just choosing to act and feel this way!. It's not true!.

Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain!. It may have a cause as with situational depression, or it could stem from a natural malfunction in the brain, which is clinical depression!.

Not accepting depression is the same as not accepting blindness or autism!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think it's good for people who are constantly feeling down to know there is a clinical reason for why they are feeling this way so they know there is hope and that treatment is available!. i don't think depression is anything people should frown upon, i think it is painful and real!. people should have empathy for those who suffer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think it's good for people to have to hit a low point!. However, I do think being diagnosed with depression can be a good thing, because once it's diagnosed the patient knows there is something clinically wrong and can be treated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

true depression is not a good thing but people cannot stop it so it is not their fault but sometimes people mistake sadness or grief for depression which is not a good thing as sadness and grief are natural Responses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
