Why don't psychiatrists wear white coats like other doctors?!

Question: Why don't psychiatrists wear white coats like other doctors!?
Didn't a lot of psychaitrists used to wear white coats in the sixties/thirties, just like any other MD!? I know it's not like surgery, but they're still an MD and it would probably be clearer to people that they are real doctors!.
when i was in the hospital (psych ward) i asked the dr!. what kind of dr!. he was and said he was a psychiatrist!. i knew he was a dr!. but it might make it clearer to ppl that they are medical dr!.s if they wear a white coat!. are there any that do these days!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
a white coat makes people look professional!. and distant - key point!. psychiatrists are all about getting you to open up!. they need to get to know you!. are you going to be more relaxed around someone who looks like they're about to operate, or someone who looks relatively normal!?

the coats are more useful to a doctor who needs to be sterile and have medical instruments within reach!. psychiatrists don't need either of these things, so most don't bother!.

I'm sure some psychiatrist out there is wearing a lab coat, though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I work in a hospital and no doctors I see ever wear a white coat!. And that's a good thing because they promote the spread of MRSA and C!.diff, especially as doctors rarely washed these properly!. All doctors, physios, OTs and nurses should be wearing short sleeves anyway!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If they wear, patients think the doctors have gone mad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
