Dependent personality disorder (cluster C): " !.!.!.is a pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of that leads to submissive and clinging behavior and fears of separation" (DSM-IV-TR, pg!. 721)!. Obviously, there's a list that you need to go though before you can diagnose someone with DPD, but the essence is that the person cannot be alone, depends on people, especially one person, is afraid of being left to take care of him/herself, and has difficulty expressing him/herself due to this fear!.

Histrionic Personality Disorder (cluster B): "!.!.!.pervasive and excessive emotionality and attention-seeking behavior" (pg!. 711, DSM-IV-TR)!. Someone with HPD needs to be the center of attention, has a rather sexually seductive manner, shallow expressions that shift rapidly, and easliy influenced by others!.

As with all Axis II (i!.e!. personality) disorders, they are a part of one's personality, hence not changeable!. One of the reasons why insurance companies don't pay for Axis II diagnosis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dependent personality disorder is an anxiety personality disorder!. A person suffering from it is dependent on the people around them and feels very anxious when away from those people!. They feel that they can't make decisions without outside influence, etc!.

Histrionic personality disorder is a dramatic personality disorder where the person feels a need for constant attention!. They will often act out to get the attention they feel they need!. They appear shallow and selfish, but often do care for the people around them!. The difference is their desperate need for attention!.
