I've been on Seroquel for years, and it works for me. But we're not all the same. I've been on a whole host of psych meds, and some had really odd and debilitating side effects. I always weighed up the benefits of the medication against the side effects I was experiencing. If the side-effects were so bad that they caused distress or impairment, and the benefits were small, I talked to my doctor about changing. There are many, many, types of psych drugs; you just have to find the right combination for you. That being said, you do need to give each medication a decent go because the benefits often take a while to show, while the side effects often wear off.

If you've been on Zoloft for 10 years, but you have treatment-resistant depression, then maybe the Zoloft has lost it's effectiveness?

Also, Seroquel is what's called a serotonin and dopamine antagonist. Meaning that it binds to the receptors in your brain that receive serotonin etc. so that your brain no longer gets spurts of those chemicals which can cause mania, anxiety and OCD. This may cause you to feel sleepy, slow, sluggish and heavy to begin with, but it does wear off after you've taken them for a while. If your doctor has highly recommended that you take it, then I would try to stick with it for as long as you can.

And please don't be distressed. It's highly unlikely that any medication will cause lasting brain damage, which is what would have to happen for your mind and moods to be permanently altered. My doctors tried me on quite a few different things before they found the right ones. I'm doing really well now, but it does require a lot of patience to get there. Keep your courage, and don't give up. I wish you all the best. Oh and my email is leshara@hotmail.com if you have more questions or want to talk :)

don't let yourself get anxious about your anxiety meds. If the Dr recommends it take it. It will take you awhile to get used to it, and you may feel funky for a few days or weeks. Stick with it, if at your next appointment you still feel weird and it is not keeping your OCD anxiety, tell your Dr. Seroquel has been know to work wonders with some, so give it a try. remember, the point of meds is to make your symptoms lesser and you quality of life better. You will not know if seroquel can do this for you unless you try it.

Avoid mind control. Doctors will not tell you if you're a mind control experiment. Try walking several miles a day or working to that. That will do you a lot better. Doctors want you to believe you cannot live with these heavy powerful drugs.

Uncommon sense.

I would be too. The side effects can be unpleasant I suppose. Have you tried alternatives like massage therapy?

Sorry to hear about your experiences. :(

don't take seroquel, there are a lot safer meds now.legit.
