What is the best antidepressant?!

Question: What is the best antidepressant?
I've tried 4 now and none work.

Answers:

It's hard to answer that unless we know what you've tried. Is your depression treatment resistant?
Usually citalopram is one of the first ones they try, because it's relatively mild. Have they tried another SSRI like escitalopram, paroxetine or fluoxetine? That's usually what they do before they move onto the SNRIs like Duloxetine or effexor.

I have treatment resistant depression and I take effexor, but that was one of the last they tried because the side-effects and withdrawals can be bad.

Really we can't suggest anything other than to recommend you talk to your doctor. What works for well for may not work for others.

Cymbalta is what I take, it has very little side effects and it's the only antidepressant that doesn't make you gain weight.

Citalopram is popular amongst psychiatrists and doctors for moderate depression
