Does chocolate really make you feel better when you're sad?!

Question: Does chocolate really make you feel better when you're sad?
I would like to know if that theory is true or not. It seems to be but I wanna know if there is actually something in it to stimulate your mood.

Answers:

Yup. This is usually true of dark chocolate though because it releases endorphins and elevates serotonin levels in the blood. An ounce of dark chocolate everyday is good for you! Plenty of antioxidants :)

I agree but there are preconditions. The chocolate must be low in sugar and high in cocoa (>80%)
otherwise you will experience the effect of sugar. Normal chocolate has 50% cocoa and the rest is sugar. That is why chocolate is tasting sweet. Chocolate high in cocoa is tasting bitter. Sugar is one of the components which are prolonging depression. If you have no access to chocolate high in cocoa you may try cocoa powder with hot water. My second point goes to the fact that the effect is only short time and, of course, does not remove the causes of sadness. If sadness is a real depression you may try other mood lifting methods like walking in the sunshine, jogging, treadmill and there are many more methods available. These methods are topic of discussion in Yahoo depression-anxiety group.
