For me, it's going 8 + days without sleeping, 4 without eating. Swearing at my teachers and my family. Hurting my sister's pet hamster. Smacking my sister and throwing stuff at her, making her cry. Screaming at my sis and my mom telling them to die. Breaking things. Slamming doors. Thinking of killing myself, planning it out, and then sitting in class thinking about gory ways to murder people; and loving every single second of it. Anxiety attacks, random weight loss and I got even paler than normal, so pale kids would ask if I'm a vampire. LITERALLY. I come to school late every single day and get sent to the office every day. I don't listen in class and I'm passing math by only 1 mark. If I fail, I honestly don't even care anymore.

I've lost interest in everything. I get about 11 hours of sleep every night, and yet I feel ridiculously exhausted every day. People make fun of me because I'm really strong even though I don't look like it, I can lift about 3x more than the guys in my grade. Sometimes people call me ogre because I'm tall and chubby, even though guys tell me that they like my body because it's curvy. lol. Anyways. It f*cking sucks.

That was induced from 6 years of bullying, and my dad calling me fat, ugly etc. and telling me nobody would love me because I'm 5'10 in height and 'chubby'. I sliced my hands in art class on purpose with a metal skewer to see what it would feel like, some of the cuts drew blood. and I scratched at my wrists violently with my sharp fingernails that had gotten ridiculously long. Sometimes I would purposely take my sister's hamster, drench it in water, and drop it on the floor from about 6 and a half feet because it wouldn't stop biting its cage. DONT tell me it's wrong. I know it is. I love all of my other pets to death and I spoil them completely. That one isn't mine, it smells and squeaks and she doesn't take care of it properly so I was forced to deal with it. I came so close to OD'ing. I was going to take 30 extra strength tylenol that was prescribed for my ear. I know I'm going to do it, cause I'm reaching my breaking point.

Me. Don't mistake angst for depression, because almost all the teens on here asking about it feel better in the next week.

Being depressed makes everything un-enjoyable, you get angry at the simplest things, you want to be left alone, school is hard because happy people around you can make it worse. Sports that you used to love seem pointless, it seems like all you do is sleep and you either want to eat or starve for 3 days. You can't sleep through the whole night or even sleep at all half of the time. You make yourself feel more worthless as time goes by. Even though you want to be alone it only seems to make everything 100x worse.

self experiences.....

Lack of interest in daily activities. Exhaustion and excessive sleepiness. Lack of focus. Weepiness or easily upset. Edgy or short-tempered.

Not all kids get all of these, but expect a couple.

I hope your little one improves. Maximize exposure to sun, give a good mtivitamin and lots of hugs!

I went through a rough depression a year ago. It wasn't fun. I always wanted to be left alone. I was angry every minute of the day. I started cutting my self as a punishment. But after a while it went away. You just have to find something, or somebody, that makes you happy.

Suicidal thoughts, isolation, lonliness, social avoidance, crying, moodiness, weight gain, weight loss, loss of interest in favorite activities, self-destructive behaviors, suicide attempts, etc.

I was a depressed teenager.

it makes them depressed
