What sort of questions will my GP ask about depression?!

Question: What sort of questions will my GP ask about depression?
I have an appointment to see my GP tomorrow to discuss the possibility of me having depression. They don't know what the appointment will be about yet but having searched various websites and forums about people going to see their GPs to discuss depression, they mentioned that many GPs use a questionnaire to determine the level of depression and help them work out what action is needed. Has anyone done one of these questionnaires before? What sort of things will they ask?

Most GPs aren't very comfortable discussing psychiatric issues, including depression. They may rely on some basic questionnaire or they mask ask a few basic questions. If you believe you really are depressed, they will make a referral for you to see a mental health professional. You usually do not need a referral from your GP for this process to begin, you can start with such a professional yourself. The GP will most likely refer you to a psychiatrist which may, or may not, be the best place to start.

your gp will ask how long have you been feeling this way?

what are your general symptoms

did anything trigger this attack of depression

not all gps will ask the same questions but it will be basically something like i stated

best wishes
