Nothing to talk about in therapy?!

Question: Nothing to talk about in therapy?
Last week it was awkward because nothing big happened and it was really silent most of the time with us just saying the same thing but re-wording it. Nothing big happened again this week..what should I talk about so there is no awkward silence?

I used to feel that way in therapy a lot. What someone finally pointed out to me was that I was repressing things. I was so used to holding it in to function with the rest of my life that I was even holding it in when it was safe to just let it all out... and if you don't think that is the case with you, part of your therapist's job is to be a resource person. Whatever the reason is that you are seeing them, there are always new bits of information coming out and new theories to discuss, potentially something you could really relate to!

i go to talk therapy on a regular basis with a psychologist. some sessions there is not enough time to discuss everything that needs to be discussed and other sessions there is nothing much to discuss so we sit there and just talk about world events, my neurotic dog, the weather or just tell each other jokes we've just recently heard. you would be amazed what kind of information that can tell your doctor about you. small talk can say a lot of big things about you. i gather that you are a young person. talk about something funny that happened in one of your classes. something fun you did with a friend or a sibling, or with one of your parents. anything you read or a movie you watched.
these type of things tell your doctor more about you than when you sit there telling him/her about your problems you had since last you were in his/her office.

personal experinece.

Considering it's therapy and not a date you are not obligated to say a thing! There should be no awkwardness. They're there for YOU. If you have anything on your mind by all means let it out, but it's always okay in those circumstances to stay quiet and just let your mind wander. Doing that, you'll definitely resolve those issues as well as others.

Teresa know what shes talkin 'bout ;)
