I'm always sleepy, no matter how much I sleep?!


Question: I'm always sleepy, no matter how much I sleep?
Alright, before I get into it, I'm going to mention that I've had blood work done. My Iron was a bit low, but nothing to cause this, and my thyroid levels were perfectly fine as well.

No matter how much I sleep at night, I wake up completely exhausted in the morning. I slept for 9 hours last night, yet I'm still yawning, and I'm gonna go take a nap soon. Even after I wake up from that nap, I'll still be very sleepy. This stupid cycle repeats itself all the time. It's been almost a year since I've felt like this.

It's disrupting my life, 'cause I can't concentrate at all anymore; who can when they're so sleepy? I also feel like I'm always dreaming, which I think people occasionally feel when they've had a lack of sleep, except mine is permanent.

I've been to a Psychiatrist, and she had given me Effexor, 'cause she thought it was a side effect of Depression. I wish that helped even a little bit. Recently she gave me Concerta, which has done nothing but destroy my appetite.

What kind of a doctor should I go to? I don't think I've ever seen a doctor who specializes in sleep. What could be wrong with me? I need help. :(

have they tested your vitamin d? Mine was very low and contributed to my sleepiness, also if you have been treated for depression (I was too) and you are still tired all the time it could very well be a sleep disorder, you might think about having a sleep study done because I had one done finally after all the other medical/metal tests and they found out I had mild sleep apnea and narcolepsy, keep looking for help, I know its hard to get people to believe you when you say you are sleepy but there is no reason for you to be that way.
Also be careful with Effexor type drugs, I took it for a while and switched, but while coming off had some of the worst detox symptoms of my life.



ok well you should do some exercise because when i do it i can fel all the stored up old energy well going away in a run or whatever, and then new energy can come in...so then that's better...also maybe your diet needs to change, so a dietician might be a good idea...possibly a bit of exercises to help with concentration



Me are looking at your situation hi think you should just go to a standard or specialize hospital for the problem to be solved because gradually with time the problem may lead to another thing which hi think is dangerous to your living

I suggest to visit a GP and ask for blood test on thyroid hormones and iron. If you have gained weight within the last month low thyroid hormones T3 T4 might be responsible and an antidepressant cannot help. Low iron in blood would lead to a condition where early exhaustion is noticed. But you can have both conditions at the same time. That is why only a blood test may give valid answers.

Hm. Something may be disrupting your sleep. Iron can actually effect your sleep. Lack of iron makes it hard to sleep, and a lack of iron is also linked to restless leg syndrome - so you may be moving a lot in your sleep, and that's why you feel so tired -because it's not a deep sleep.

It could also be a breathing issue.

Try taking Melatonin. It's a supplement. Your body naturally creates it when it's dark out, as a signal that your body should get tired. This may push your body into a deeper sleep without having to take actual sleeping pills which can leave you groggy in the morning.
