I am a retired nurse. I have seen good & bad doctors. What happened to your friend is not right. Agoraphobia doesn't necessarily need to be treated with medications, however. It can be treated through relaxation exercises, biofeedback &/or desensitization. Your friend needs to go to a doctor for her arthritis. She can ask the doctor if he/she could recommend a good counselor for her agoraphobia too. Try to convince your friend that you won't leave her alone at the doctor's office & will help her. She may have to see more than one doctor or counselor, before she finds the right one for her. In order for therapy to work, the relationship between a counselor & patient needs to be one of trust & understanding. Check out some books, check on line, or see if there is a support group in your area for agoraphobia. You are a very good friend. I hope that your friend can find the right help for her.

you should go to doctors immediately.

She ended up in a psych ward for agoraphobia or a mental hospital there a difference. Sounds very similar too me because I have it and all they did was medicate me and send me to a hospital program for about three weeks and put me on therapy every week with a doctor I visit every month. I felt like going to a phyco ward the other end of the hospital at because it's very very hard and frustrating at times.

From experience it's harder sometimes but not all for people with anxiety disorders to get things out with doctors. In this hospital program I went to had a group of people with various disorders and we all would get assigned too two main doctors and people would tell the nurses how they were tired of having medications switched and prescriptions added and i felt them! This poor guy there Had like 7 meds and the doctor is trying to push him on another. So the nurses/social workers told us we have to do what we know is right for us no matter what the doctors says and we have to advocate for our selves, if the nurses told us that. Yes it happens

Yes a doctor may be right then again they are not always right. With anxiety and agoraphobia I had my days and not a word would come out of my mouth even when i tried it would frustrate me to death! I would cry couldn't breath. So I would talk to another professional working with them to sort out issues. You or her or whoever I am talking too really has to fight for their rights and find alternatives to make them happy.

NO you can not always trust any doctor. The doctor in the hospital stuck me on Ativan. 2 pills a day and wanted me to continue it. Go to my regular doctor and she tells me it's an addictive drug and I am taking to many doses and is only is needed for short peroids of time OH GREAT. So yes, fight for your rights. If I didn't have a regular psychiatrist I would probably be addicted and I regret he gave me those meds in such a dose. I got information but not enough. Yes do it.

Then again sometimes they can be right. But I am not all for people being dosed up. The kid on the 8 meds looked like a zombie
