If you have a written diagnosis, you should be able to receive medical benefits. Here in PA, I had to apply for it through social security. We made to much money so there is a loophole we had to go through to get him his medical card. With the diagnosis they will grant her a medical card not based off your income.

I don't know where you live or the exact specifics, but there are definitely some services you can get.

Financial help would only be available if you could social security disability payments for your granddaughter. Here are the requirements:

"The child must not be working and earning more than $1,000 a month in 2011. (This earnings amount usually changes every year.) If he or she is working and earning that much money, we will find that your child is not disabled.
The child must have a physical or mental condition, or a combination of conditions, that results in “marked and severe functional limitations.” This means that the condition(s) must very seriously limit your child’s activities.
The child’s condition(s) must have lasted, or be expected to last, at least 12 months; or must be expected to result in death"

A severely autistic child would meet all of these criteria. It might be good to get a lawyer, but I'm not sure. The income of the legal guardian/caretaker of the child would also be considered.

There are special programs that your granddaughter should be eligible for, and it would most likely be through her school. Speech and developmental therapy are both paid for by the government.

Good luck :)

You can email me through my profile if you have questions..my knowledge on the subject is limited, but I have some personal experience.
