I'm 13, and I still sleep with my parents?!

Question: I'm 13, and I still sleep with my parents?
This is a really, REALLY embarrassing confession so I would greatly appreciate it if those out there with mocking comments would keep it to themselves. Okay.... so I'm a young teen and I very rarely sleep in my own room. I sleep in a mattress in my parents room say, 5 times a week and I feel like its really necessary. I'm sort of a horror movie addict, to start y'all in the right trail, and I have watched a huge collection of thrillers and scarring films with my friends in such a young age; I also read horror books. The ring, chucky, the pulse, boogie man, paranormal activity, shutter, the orphan, the stepdad, hide and seek, you name it. I don't know WHY i watch them, but I'm just addicted to them cus they are so interesting and some movies I think is not that convincing or terrifying but when the night creeps in, I get so scared. Like all these thoughts cloud my mind and I imagine all of them and It's like just when I infest my thoughts with the creepy ideas, all these noises like the water leaks and the door creeks happen and i get SUPER paranoid i sometimes breath really loud and go all dizzy. I know, i should not have watched the films but what is done is done and I deeply regret it, but how do I vanish this eerie feeling? To get back in my room and stop sleeping with my parents. And do you think im the oldest of the chain of kids that do this? Thanks for any contribution!

I know how you feel. Don't worry about it. You're getting dependent on sleeping in your parents' room, so just slowly try to sleep in your room. Get a nightlight if you want (they aren't just for babies), and listen to music on your ipod. Hide under the covers if you want, maybe even play a couple games on your ipod, ds, whatever you have, until you get tired. Then just listen to music, and really focus on it. Think up a story to go along with the music if you want. (no scary or stressful music, obviously). Eventually you will get more used to sleeping in your own room.

I have the same problem.

it's actually normal. be proud you have such a good imagination :)

you should definitely stop watching and reading scary stuff, its not worth it.

You know it's gonna be ok

do you live in norfolk....any kids yet?

hmm my two dads were arrested for that kinda thing...

i only read your question sorry.... i shared a room and slept in the same bed as my mother until i was 16 and a half.... i never knew anyone else who slept with their mom eather maybe its normal but im 22 now and i am not so well in the head. if she shelters you like crazy and you feel that shes in too much control of your life. look out becuase in the future it will mess you up mentally. but if its not like that and all you do is sleep together... nothing wrong with me... to me... although i never told anone cuz i didnt know if it was weird or normal good luck

Dont wry about it. im sure a lot of ppl do it. Lay back from the horror movies and perhaps watch a comedy. A good trick that works for me is thinking "Why would a serial killer want to torture and perhaps rip out my guts? Am I special or something?" have a more laid back attitude and know if someone does come into ur house then u can kick there ***. This will usually be instinctual. Just stop doing it a couple nights and work ur way up. Hope this helped :0

My parents and I co-slept until about 6 months ago. I'm 16 now, 15 then. Anyways, I'm as much as a chicken as you, that's why I had to sleep in my parents room. I always slept with my parents and it's extremely common in my culture. I'm asian so parents like sleeping with their children. There is no such thing as having a separate room for you child. Anyways, I slept in the same bed with my mom until about 6 months ago. There is nothing to be ashamed about! It's perfectly fine.

It was also due to the fact that my house was very tiny. We only had 2 bedrooms and the other room was full of toys and games.

I'm a chicken just like you :)

Don't worry about it. A lot of people get spooked by horror movies and don't want to sleep alone. You're still young and will eventually outgrow sleeping in your parents room. Don't be embarrassed about it. Be thankful you have caring parents that don't make an issue out of it. To overcome the fright realize the movies are fake. When you get scared after watching a movie tell yourself "it's no different than a super hero movie and the likelihood of Chucky coming in my room in the middle of the night is the same probability as me getting bitten by a radio active spider and climbing my walls."
