How to cure insomnia?!

Question: How to cure insomnia?
Well, I can't sleep at night. I am so addicted to sleep aids it's not even funny. If I don't take them, I am up til 3AM and i have to get up every morning on week days at 5:45AM to get ready for school. Please DO NOT suggest any medicines. I want to fall asleep naturally not taking a drug. Please help.

Unfortunately, there is NOT a cure for insomnia. Sleep aids get you to fall in some sort of sleep but they do not necessarily put you in REM and, thus, a lot of physicians advise strongly against the use of sleep aids. Sleep aids force your body to sleep but the body isn't "resting" during this sleep periods. Gradually, your brain starts to protest the lack of rest and then you will have to deal with other mental problems. In short, do not use sleeping pills. They do more damage than good.

Now to what you could do, keep busy to the limit. Exhaust yourself physically, work out as long and as hard as you can. Eat healthy. No junk. Avoid at any costs all dramas, no arguments with anyone, no fights, nothing that would cause you to think when you lie down on your bed at night. Keep your bed as a restrained-use area, no eating or sitting in the bed except for sleeping. This helps your body to acquaint being on bed with sleeping. The list of thongs to do go and on but at the end insomnia comes and goes on its own and all you can do is maintain a life system that ensures the maximum probability of you falling asleep when possible.

Best of luck

Edit: you will be getting a lot of answer recommending single malt or dried banana peel or shark skin fried in old engine oil. Old wives' tales. You can try a few if you will feel better but you will have a risk of getting frustrated if they don't work (IF not WHEN-who knows). I recommend getting professional help.

11 years of acute insomnia.

I know you said no meds and trust me I know the feeling. I been on sleeping meds for 11 years myself. But when I was 12 years old my grandmother bought me some calms forte. they are all natural and I feel asleep at a decent hour. Woke up rested too. My friend had me take some melatonin and your body produces that anyway. And that worked also. I stay up for days until my body gives out so I feel for you honey. Our try a steaming hot bath, as hot as you can stand, no more. I use to give myself asthma attacks when I was a teen so please not too hot. That will relax you do that and play some new age or soft classical music. Not the hard classical it may cause nightmares. And meditate. One night I kissed my pillow and said goodnight and that oput me to sleep. I'm not trying to get you to drink no snake oil or do old wives tales just telling you what worked for me. Hope you find a natural way.

drink song water and relax to some mellow relaxing songs

try Last night on Earth or 21 Guns

Try laying in bed at 10 pm each night and see what happens.

try warm milk or take a hot relaxing bath then go straight to bed
