Munkee is right. You want to see a psychologist not a psychiatrist.

Depending on how depressed you feel, I wouldn't recommend visiting the doctor just yet. Start by asking to someone close to you who would not be judgmental of you. Like a cousin or a high school friend. If not, get on an online chat room. What else are chat rooms good for anyway? :p a lot of people find it a whole lot easier to spill their guts when they are talking to faceless strangers online who could be removed out of your life forever and ever by a click of a button.

Last note, visiting a psychologist/psychiatrist can really mess up with your head. They have a way of making things worse. A few of them are good but the majority are quacks.

A psychiatrist definitely helps. I've been to 4 or 5 of them in my lifetime. If you don't handle the stress now it will cause worse problems. I would know. Currently I suffer from anxiety attacks and I have obsessive compulsive disorder. That never goes away and its difficult to live with not just for you but for people around you. I have also had shingles in the past and they have a chance of coming back once you get them. They can kill you if not treated properly so yes I would say a psychiatrist can't hurt although you might be better off with a psychologist. The only difference is that one can perscribe meds and one cant. I'm only 20 and I've been dealing with stress and depression since I was around 10 or 12.

Personal experience

Technically, no. Psychiatrists do not do 'talking' or therapy. They deal only with the medical side - diagnostics and medication. If you need to talk things through you need a counsellor or psychologist.

Talking with a psychologist won't hurt but meds from a psychiatrist might. I recommend going to meds as a last resort.

Bad experiences with celexa and welbutrin.

yes, yes you should see a psychiatrist. it'll make you feel so much better just to have someone to talk to that will actually listen.

i totally agree with munkee2

yes it would really help
