Bipolar disorder and how its effecting my life! What to do?!

Question: Bipolar disorder and how its effecting my life! What to do?
I have bipolar disorder, not the happy/sad kind but the angry and sad kind. I don't know how that would be classified but recently I have been having many fights with my parents about what i want to do with my life..You see.. im 20 years old and im stuck. Im stuck because I dont want to disapoint my parents if i move out to my friends house where they wont help me. Im just so lost right now and I really just want to do my own thing.. I know it may not be right but I want to just experience life without them. They make me feel like im always wrong with the way i think. That because I have bipolar disorder that my mind isnt what its suppost to be. That everything i think is wrong. What should I do? Should I just tell my parents that im sorry but i want to live my life or what? please give a full discription on what to do cuz i am so lost. Thanks.

Are you sure it is bipolar disorder? It sounds like borderline personality disorder.

It is normal for a person your age to be ready to leave the house. It is good for you to strive to become independent. However, you have a long hill to climb. The economy is pretty horrible right now, and it's even harder if you have a mood disorder to cope with. Go ahead and give it a try, but don't totally burn your bridges. You may need to move back with the folks if this doesn't work out. Either way, it will be good experience, and may help you mature so that you may be able to understand your parents better. It's hard to explain the realities of life to a kid who has never had to make their own way. If you pull your own weight for a while, your parents might respect you more, and you might learn to respect your parents more, too, and understand better what they are thinking, and perhaps even understand why they think you are always "wrong the way you think".

Meanwhile, if it's BPD, don't mess around. Learn about it. Get counselling. It is serious stuff, and IT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE. It will destroy relationships. Many people with BPD never do understand why things never seem to turn out well. There is no cure for the physiological issues of BPD, the anger and mood swings and impulse control issues, paranoia and compulsive behavior. But there is treatment and management of it. It possible to learn to recognize the mood swings as a physical illness, and to learn that your feeling bad is not someone else's fault. If you can learn to recognize that other people don't cause your moods.then you can escape or recover from full-blown BPD, and believe me, that's what you want to do. In other words, if you accidentally roll a car off the trailer and destroy the garage door (true story), I might laugh at you, or I might get angry. Whether I laugh or get angry is not something the other person caused, although he did cause some damage to the door. People with BPD feel a lot of anger and sadness, and it is instinct to look for a cause. Then they blame people around them (usually the one's closest to them) for "making them" feel bad, when it is really more like having the flu. That's why most people who are close to someone with BPD find that distance -- a LOT of distance -- is the only solution. If you are feeling sad and angry, and having a lot of drama and conflict in your life, get counselling and get medication and make some lifestyle changes and learn techniques to manage and reduce stress. It's more importan than anything else, because everything else (work, family, success in life) depends on you getting that problem stabilized.

When you have a mood disorder, the first place to start is with your physical health. Healthy sleep. Avoid sugar, alcohol and caffeine. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Use supplements like 5HTP, fish oil capsules and inositol. Start reading up. There is a wealth of information available, and it can literally change your life. Learn about anxiety, and how our physical health interacts with our emotional health. Everyone knows that tired and hungry folks are irritable, weepy folks. There are simple things you can do at home to help improve your mood.

I'm sorry you are feeling bad. Best Wishes and Good Luck!!

tell your parents that it's your life and you will live it. if they dont care for what you do with your life then it's their loss. don't let them try to controll your life. try to be what you want

Go to a psychiatrist and get meds. My mother has BP and that's the only thing that's helped her.
