This is a hard one to answer because there is often a lot of confusion when diagnosing someone with AS. Sometimes the symptoms of AS can be confused with the symptoms of psychosis; thus often a variety of psychotic illnesses will be amongst those in the differential diagnosis. There are cases of co-morbidity with AS and psychotic illness but I don't think there is much evidence to suggest that there is a HIGHER incidence amongst AS sufferers. It is more likely that a person with AS will experience depression or something in the range of anxiety disorders like OCD, GAD or Social anxiety. Depression and anxiety in AS are often triggered or worsened by situations including social isolation, lack of peer understanding or frustration at not being understood.
