Why can't I concentrate or remember as well as I used to?!

Question: Why can't I concentrate or remember as well as I used to?
I am 21 years old and it doesn't feel like I can concentrate on *thinking* about a certain task (i.e. reading, mentally solving a problem or puzzle) and it feels like I have no long term memory (such as knowing material back and forth during a class but remembering nothing about it two weeks after). Possible depression or anxiety could certainly be a factor, among a host of other potential symptoms like nearly debilitating fatigue (and maybe even hypochondriasis?). I used to be quite brilliant and would soak up knowledge like a sponge, but in just a few short years it just feels like my mind has changed. It's really affecting my schoolwork and I fear will destroy my future prospects. Anyway, where might I start trying to fix this? Name anything: supplements, tests, music therapy, tarot card readings, you name it.

I do need to mention that I'm pretty sure exercise will take care of almost all of my problems, but I've never been able to keep up a regiment because of my fatigue and probable depression.

Answers:

Classic viscous circle isnt' it? Some gentle yoga might help a bit, but as you say exercise would help more. What sort of regime have you tried? Depending on where you live walking is really one of the best things for depression and stress. Try getting a pedometer and working up to the recommended 10000 steps a day. Don't do this all at once. Measure what you are doing and then aim to add say 1000 steps a day. You can do this easily by say going ruond the block twice. The pedometer keeps you honest and acts as a motivator as it seems like just getting 500 steps more will help. Make your aim for the week an acheivable amount of steps but not too unchallenging and up it when it starts to feel comfortable. Its easiest to start if you just accumulate steps here and ther in the day. As time goes on you may put this into 2 longer walks for example. There are many alternatives and you can use any of them. This is easier than having a set amount of exercises you do every day. There are many books on using pedometers with other suggestions.

Quick working remedies are bacopa monnieri capsules and NADH. But removing depression which is causing a bad short time memory is a different matter. If you dislike walking/jogging which is mood lifting you may try omega-3 capsules (fishoil) (3000 mg) and walnuts and almonds.

you are 21...things start to change. Exercise is probably a great way to fix most anything. Try swimming. Don't panic, if you are brilliant, that didn't go away. just might have something else going on in your life that is carrying over to your studies

SLEEEEEEEEP did me wonders. more sleep the better!
if I couldn't have 10 hours of sleep a night I would kill myself.

U should cut down on the partying
