Is there anything more depressing then being told your depression is not treatab!

Question: Is there anything more depressing then being told your depression is not treatable?
i just read that 1 in 10 cases is not treatable and am having a hard time thinking of any news i would like to receive less than 'you will probably always be unhappy and (from now on) you will always be aware of that'

Answers:

smoke weed and/or drink alcohol, and also just knuckle down. I battled depression but it really is a easy battle if you say f*ck it

Ok, I've dealt with two serious (years-long) depressive episodes, and minor depression before those. I do NOT buy that depression is untreatable.

Depression is a feedback loop between character + circumstance. Some people will always have a tendency to melancholy, or rigidly perfectionistic thinking. The thing to do is work towards insight - to learn to manage the crappy circumstances so that the worst aspects of your character don't get the best of you.

Like, by exercising; working at letting things go; accepting disappointments without taking them personally; making an effort to develop and sustain relationships. (I think distraction is one of the best ways to stave off the black dogs, certainly in the beginning.) That's work. It can be learned.

Some may be unlucky in life (eg be born in a country with a 60% unemployment rate, or develop illnesses). Even there, acceptance and working hard to make what difference you can is what needs doing.

I hate psychiatry for using the kind of language you mention. (And other things, actually.)

you can try medicaton because it helps millions of people but i would try therapy and they can help you find ways to cope that is what i am doing now and in some cases that might not be enough but the combination of the two therapy and meds can help if not one.

yeah i was told the same thing. Even on meds you can still have it.

You could have your mom and your cat hit by a car on the same day by the same car and both of them die. True story. :(
