What do you do when someone is sleepwalking?!

Question: What do you do when someone is sleepwalking?
My cousin is sleepwalking!
He is walking into walls and mumbling, I'm the only one awake.
Help? Do I try to wake him up? What do I do?

Answers:

"It is a myth that it is dangerous to wake up a sleepwalker because it may cause them a heart attack, shock, brain damage, or something else. It is not a myth that it is dangerous to wake up a sleepwalker because of the possible injury the sleepwalker may inflict upon themselves or the person waking them up.

According to Dr Giuseppe Plazzi of the Department of Neurological Sciences at the University of Bologna in Italy, rousing a sleepwalking person, especially vigorously, might confuse or distress them temporarily. Disoriented, they may strike out at anyone close. It is best not to be in their way.

Instead, it might be better to simply guide them back to bed in their sleep. It is not likely that a sleepwalker when woken up suddenly will have a cardiac event. It is no different from when a person sleeping normally is suddenly awakened by, say, a loud noise. The important thing is to protect a sleepwalker from themselves."

I agree with this article. I chopped my neice in the back when she kicked me in the sleep because I was dreaming about her standing and my stomach and laughing and I couldn't get her off. I didn't mean to chop her but it was my reaction. I woke up a few mins after and realized what I did and hoped up out the bed fast and she was just looking at me with wide eyes but was okay. Scary. After I woke up and noticed what I did. I went into panic mode.

SOMNAMBULISM: (SleepWALKING)
is estimated to affect around 10% of the population, at some time in their lives, is most common in males, and those aged 8 - 12, the rates declining with increasing years. It is particularly dangerous for those who manage to find their way into the outside world, especially on the roads. Many cases have occurred recently where those affected had been taking sleeping medications. Put an alarm on the bedroom door, and make that room as safe as reasonably possible. Avoid alcohol, late at night, if prone to sleepwalking.

Practise one of the following relaxation methods in bed, after lights out. http://www.drcoxconsulting.com/managing-… or http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/mindbody… or http://www.wikihow.com/Meditate or Yoga Nidra, (a series of easy mental exercises only; no flexibility required) at http://your-mental-health.weebly.com/l.h… Consider hypnotherapy, if sufficiently suggestible. Never wake a sleepwalker, particularly males, since they can react violently. There is a comprehensive section on this at http://www.sleepdisordersguide.com/sleep… and also see http://nosleep.in/

Most people are suggestible, to some degree, so you could either seek professional hypnotherapy, or, if not an option, instant-hypnosis.com has: Stop Sleep Walking.

I think that if it was me I would want someone to just hold my hand and observe, what I am doing and lead me back to bed. And on the way slowly wake me up, without giving a fright, observe their reaction. How in earth is someone going to stop their sleep walking unless you intervene. Do not believe psychiatrists, they are crazier than everyone that they treat.Tell me what would you want if you sleep walk, leave you to walk around like a loony, it could be dangerous. what if you were in a hotel up 30 flights, you do not know where you would end up. Wake them up. but gently.

Literally, all you have to do is telll him "Go to bed" or "back to bed" and they will.
& a sleepwalker will not do something that he would not do awake.

They did that to me when i was younger, when i sleptwalked for a while.

Gently guide him back to bed with gentle speech & a helping hand. if he doesn't stay in bed, repeat & wake gently. waking quickly can cause trauma.they usually go back to bed after 1 or 2 tries.

Justleave him you should never wake a sleepwalker ever

You infiltrate their dreams.

I N C E P T I O N

spray silly spray on him

wake him up.

ask yourself, what would chuck norris do? problem solved
