How do suicide hotlines trace your call and send help to you ?!

Question: How do suicide hotlines trace your call and send help to you ?
I called a suicide hotline form my cell phone and I made sure that I wasn't home. So I drove somewhere and called from there from my cell.. And I get home a few hours later, and my house is surrounded by police cars and an ambulance. How did they track down where I lived ? I only told them my first name.. I was never asked where I live, or anything. So how was all this done ?

I'm sure they didn't spend much time tracking me down, because the police said that they got a call from dispatch telling them I was suicidal and intoxicated..and they came straight to my house.. but I'm just wondering how this happened so quickly..

They must have seen your call number, and with proprietory information, found the address associated with the phone number. I never took the course, so don't know exactly. It was offered, but I didn't feel I could listen to people over and over and just give out the basic information. The training program is two weeks. Apparently, they have the means. With a home phone, if you dial 911, they will come immediately to the house as it shows up. Maybe take the training program, help others, and find out how it is done.
