Would my doctor have to tell my mom I'm depressed?!

Question: Would my doctor have to tell my mom I'm depressed?
I've been depressed for about 2 1/2 years now and I'm only 14, lately it's been getting much worse and harder to handle. If I tell my doctor that I am depressed will she have to tell my mom? considering my mom is the entire reason I'm depressed. If I do tell my doctor what would she do/ask? Thank you in advance.

Answers:

its confidential

the only reason why your mum would be involved if your sent to a psych hospital(very unlikely) or your a danger to yourself

the dr will ask how long u been feeling like this etc
she may refer you to counselling
sometimes ppl are offered anti depressants this may be the case but you are still quite young
look on www.kidshealth.com go to the teen section
best wishes

it probably would depend if you wanted medication for it beacuse then it would be on your record and your mom would most likley see it at one point and the whole thing would just be hard to hide...but i see where your coming from maybe just call your doctor and talk to her about it goodluck =]

i'm going through closley the same thing right now =/

I think you should talk to your mother about why are you depress and if she's making you depress let her know your feelings. I'm sure your mum will understand but if you don't get much support from her try and talk to a teacher or another family member, I'm sure things will get sorted at the end.
Good luck!

They will only tell your mother if you are a danger to yourself or others.
