Can I receive SSI? (long post)?!

Question: Can I receive SSI? (long post)?
I'll try to give you guys as much info as I can, without turning this post into a novel...

My earliest memory of depression (and anger) started when I was 6 and was sent to foster care. I remember everything about the night the police and ACS came to take me from my mother. I also remember living with my foster families.

When I was 10, my mother started dating a guy who used to hit her all the time. I had to call the police on him a few times. The first time I had sex I was raped, so I am not very sexually active. When I was in high school, I used to be a "cutter". I was seeing a psych who diagnosed me with ADD. At age 15, I lived in a group home. Then I had a physically and mentally abusive boyfriend for 4yrs. Now at age 29, I'm currently living in a DV shelter.

Over the years I've had abortions...which I know is my fault, but it still takes a toll on you emotionally and mentally. I have a 5yr old son, who might have a learning disability. His (bum of a) father threatens custody all the time, which does not help my mental state.

I was diagnosed with psoriasis which has caused me to have a miscarriage last year, and an ectopic pregnancy this year. I lost my left tube. I want to have another child....but at this point it doesnt seem very likely. My sex life is literally non-existant because of the psoriasis anyway. And it makes me more depressed, self conscious, and angry because people stare.

I also have very sweaty hands and feet. So sweaty, that I canwatch trails fall down my arms. I can alsop throw sweat at you from across the room. I can't even hold my boyfriend's hand, or wear sandals in the summer cause my feet slides around making it awkward to walk. I'm extremely self-conscious.

In my head I can hear people talking about me. I'm not saying I hear voices, but I can swear people say things about me so I easdrop on their conversation. I dont hear anything about me and I go back to my business....and then I hear them saying things about me again.

Answers:

I don't need to read your whole question to answer it for you. You have to be seeing a psychiatrist on a regular basis and treated with the right safe medications. You have to be unable to work because of your mental illness. The evaluations are done by the psychiatrist that you are seeing. You cannot be cut off of SSI if you are continuing to suffer and take care of yourself. You would need to talk to SS to find out how much you would get. Their number is 1-800-772-1213. You can apply for SSI online. It takes about 6 months to make the determination that you are eligible and unable to work. At the end of the 6 months you would receive a check that would include that months payment and the retroactive payments from the day that you applied. If you are being treated and following your psychiatrist directions and taking your medications you don't need a lawyer. I think that it is a shame that lawyers are allowed to advertise that you need one to get your benefits. That is not true. I am on SSD and was approved like most without having to pay a lawyer.

Well, it looks like you posted from Australia from what Y! Answers shows on my screen, and I'm in the US... I can only tell you that in the US, if you have a physical or mental disability that prevents you from working you can get at least some SSI.

Based on the mental health issues you've described, and the excessive perspiration that keep you from wearing certain shoes safely, I would say yes. BUT, the Government is picky and might find ONE little minuscule detail that disqualifies you if you're not careful.

In the Source(s) section, I gave the link to the US requirements for SSI. If you're really looking for the info for AUS SSI, then I don't know what to tell you, sorry.
