CAT MURDERED. SICKO? or wild animal?!

Question: CAT MURDERED. SICKO? or wild animal?
NEED HELP, CAT MURDERED?
Can't tell how he was killed. If it was a sick nutcase sending us a message, or if it was a wild animal.

Cat was large 8 month old male, NEUTERED, house cat. He would ask to go out about 3 times a day and would come back in after about an hour. He never went farther than the next door neighbor's homes on either side of us. They all knew him and liked him.

He went MISSING ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. We put up posters all over, ran ads in the newspapers, went to all the neighbors, not just the ones next to us, and looks in ALL areas that were woodsy...as we live in town. No cat. Looked all over our yard, under bushes everywhere. No cat. Three weeks no cat.

Then this morning, on the cement patio right outside our back door...where we go out on several times a day...there he was. Gutted. BUT there was NO BLOOD ANYWHERE AROUND HIM. He was not decomposed. There were no other signs that he had been bitten, broken, anything...just his abdominal contents removed.

Can't understand how he would have come home, AFTER THREE WEEKS, and been killed by a wild animal on our steps. BUT the alternative that some sick person had him and killed him, and put him on our patio right where we would find him for some sick reason scares us. There was a nut that came up to my daughter about 4 weeks ago and hit her repeatedly in the face, until she called the police. Then there was cyber bulling that was hateful after that, and before the cat/kitten went missing. I'm just hoping that this happens to cats more than I am aware of, for reasons that don't involve sick humans.

What should we do? Call the ASPCA, Call the police? How can we tell what happened to him?

Answers:

I would caution against linking any of the incidents in the absence of further evidence. The facts seem to support a hypothesis with human intervention. Missing for sometime, gutted and presumably killed some place else, absence of decomposition, and finally displayed on the porch so it would shock the owners.

You should report this formally to the police. I doubt they would take it seriously, however, or put any real investigation into the complaint. Nonetheless, it needs to be documented, as do the previous incidents. Hopefully, the police will be able to establish linkage, if it exists.

In the meantime be vigilant and keep track of each others movements, avoid high crime areas, dark alleys and all the usual sensical precautions.

That's horrible,I'm sorry to hear that. Now if your cat's total abdominal region is missing, not just gutted, that sounds like a coyote kill(weird he wasn't decomposed though). Document the cyber bullying, all of it.
I'd call the cops and file a report.
Good luck, hope everything works out.

Had a coyote problem,for awhile.

sounds like you live around some nutty people, i would move asap

The ASPCA cannot determine anything. Your vet could tell you what happenned, but unfortunately it seems like the poor kitty was killed.
especially after hearing about the other things going on.
I would call the police and tell them about everything going on--just to have a report filed.
So sorry about this.

Oh my god. That on its own sounds incredibly suspicious. Combined with the assault on your daughter and the cyber bullying... I'm almost one hundred percent sure that this was no accident. I would definitely call the police as soon as possible. This could be some kind of warning, like you said, and might progress to harm to your family members if you don't stop it now. Stay safe!

To me it sounds like some sick person trying to send you a message, one way you can tell if the cat was gutted by a knife or an animal is to look over the body (which may sound gross) and try to indicate if there was any teeth marks, tearing of the skin or if there is a clean cut that a knife would do. If you come to the conclusion that it was a knife or some other instrument, call the police and bring up the incident with your daughter and cyber bullying.
