Melatonin will make you feel sluggish the day after.
What you need is an activity/ritual that will help you fall asleep and make you feel drowsy NATURALLY, and drift you off to dream land, like reading a book or watching TV. (for me, it's about an hour of TV).
If you're stressed in life, however, you ain't never going to sleep. Find the cause of stress, eradicate it, and then you will be able to sleep.
If you drink coffee, stop drinking it for a while.
If your stressed/worried about something, try to put it off... This could be effecting your sleep.
Finally, try getting up at 10am or 11am, even though you don't feel rested you'll be able to tire yourself out more for around 10pm/11pm... I hope this helps.
I had the same problem for a long time, starting at 16. I had started taking tylenol pm to help me sleep, and that stuff will knock you out. Recently, because I didnt want to keep taking pills, I bought relaxtion cds. AND THEY HELP! I even got an app on my phone with calming music. As simple as that, sounds it really helps.
