Yes; What treatment? Treatment of thyroid! Yes! It is VERY OFTEN the underlying cause. Make sure they check both ANTIBODIES and TSH!

Don't let doctors drug you up with pills. It's a waste if you ask me. You can always overcome it with mind over matter. I have social anxiety although not as bad as when I was a kid. I don't know what kind of phobia you have but if you see someone or find a way (even by accident or by yourself) to overcome it I believe you can get past it. Sometimes you don't always need "treatment".
