Why is consuming alcohol frowned upon in people with mental illness?!

Question: Why is consuming alcohol frowned upon in people with mental illness?
One of my psychiatrist hates and i mean hates it if someone consumes alcohol while he tries treating them. The staff is against consuming alochol while having a mental illness. I know its physical effects it can have on your body but why is it bad mentally? I drink every now and then and it makes me feel really good besides getting sweaty. Makes me more sociable and laughable and removes a ton of anxiety for the time being.

Answers:

Because alcohol is a depressant and that can be really bad for people with mental illness.

If you drink while your upset it is not a good thing, because most people don't realize it,but they end up fighting with someone, hurting someone,or going to jail, and they don't even realize it until they wake up the next morning, and find out what they have done.

They're in the prescription drug business and they know that if you self medicate with alcohol then they won't get their kickbacks from the drug companies.

Alcohol, if abused, may exacerbate the symptons of mental illness that is being treated.

It's just because drinking alcohol kills brain cells so I think that's it

maybe for some people it makes them more mentally ill than they need to be

So now you are telling us since the doctor will have none of it. You know it is a free country, as they say.
