Could I get sent to a mental hospital for this...?!

Question: Could I get sent to a mental hospital for this...?
I am addicted to cutting (self harm) and I have about 45 cuts going up my leg.
I tried everything to stop but I can't help it. I am almost 14 years old.

If an adult were to find out (my friends know..) could I be sent to a mental hospital?

Answers:

Whoever said you do it for attention is an idiot, honestly. For obvious reason you just stated, yeah.

And you can't be involuntarily hospitalized unless you have the potential of harming yourself or people around you. Note that even though cuts DO harm you, it's not, erm, how do I say this, well, enough to make you involuntarily hospitalized. Basically, you can get hospitalized if you are suicidal, and not just, you know, thinking about wanting to die, because almost everyone has that every now and then, but actual attempt or specific plan of suicide.

But you can voluntarily admit yourself to a hospital if you, say, found yourself to be feeling highly suicidal and you want to prevent yourself from actually committing suicide.

And I know you weren't looking for advice, but I used to cut (I hate this word actually, it sounds so juvenile and immature lol), and well, you *can* stop, honestly. Everyone can get over any addiction. It's not easy, but it's not impossible. Just, keep trying, have faith and hang in there.

I may not be physically with you or even know you to support you, but I'm willing to spent the last half an hour of my life to type this (not slow typer, just have a problem with thinking and organizing thoughts lol) because, well, because I think you're worth it to spend time on.

Good luck.

Well, it costs money to go to a hospital or be put in a mental hospital so at age 14, more than likely someone else will be making that decision for you if it gets to that point. When you get your own insurance, are an adult, and independent then it is pretty impossible to have that happen. Do you want help? If you are telling your friends I think you are secretly sending out a message or a cry for help. Therapy can be another alternative, but will require you letting an adult know of your addiction. Good luck and I will hope for the best for you.

no you will not be sent to a mental hospital but this is something you can't hide from. It will escalate and you could do yourself real harm. you should talk to your parents about it and if that's too weird for you talk to another adult that you trust. the important thing is that you admit that you have a problem and seek help. otherwise nothing will change. If you change now while your young it will be much easier. good luck

Not necessarily, mostly what could happen is that they will take you to a therapist... it would be good if you tell an adult about your problem. Talk to your parents, it is very important that you do, your body will be marked forever, scared... and it will only get worse and worse... please, talk to your parents.

Honestly, you should want to go to one. Do you not realize cutting is a bad thing? 99% of the population don't cut - so you have a mental illness and cutting is a symptom. Seek help for it so you don't have disgusting legs for the rest of your life.

most likely not but I was a cutter and I feel your pain it is not for attention it is simply because you have no other release you feel like nobody cares and nobody will accept you what you need to do is be with the only people that care about you and that is most likely your friends

Well, I think they would try to get you to a therapist first. They'll probably send you to one if you are a doing life threatening things. You should tell an adult so they can help you stop.

yeah. It would be for your own good. They'd only put you there to help you stop. You need to tell someone. Do you want scars all over your body for the rest of your life?

Im sorry cant help just stay away from sharp objects there no way ur making ur self cut you
