Do you Believe Music Has The Power To Change You?!

Question: Do you Believe Music Has The Power To Change You?
ok, im black, 15, and in high school
And unlike most black ppl i know, i like metal, Death,Hardcore,Heavy, you name it and when ever i listing to certain types these feelings come up and i feel like im changing
For Example: Slipknot-Makes me wanna punch the **** outta ppl and smash ****
BOTDF- I wanna Parteh!
Asking Alexandria- I wanna yell and head bang
Breaking Benjamin-I Just Wanna Chill
BMTH- I feel insane and Demonic
And etc...
Is there a certain type of mental illness or do the type of music you listen to change your personality?

Any and all comments are helpful

Answers:

Music has always pulled me outta some deep funks (depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, profound grief) in my life. It also puts me in a state of grace. I am convinced there are healing properties within music.

PS...I believe certain types of music can aggitate your mood.....if you're enraged, then yeah, death metal would encourage your anger. I've always gone for songs that are fun, free spirited, spiritual, funny, classical....just about anything I can sing and dance too. It is complete liberation from oppressive thoughts and feelings.

Hope this helps. Peace~

I totally agree with Sunshine

Also, creating music is a very therapeutic and life changing experience. Hence the term music therapy. I personally found that since I have begun playing instruments, not only did it keep me out of trouble, but it gave my life more meaning and purpose. :)

If you feel like that listening to music, try learning an instrument. I think you will love it :)

Afterall music is emotion and technique.. and you seem to have the emotion part pat. If I gave you an instrument you would be able to communicate better in that manner.

And by the way, A tout le monde by megadeth, despite its sad lyrics, makes me happy :) My favorite song :) ... ok, one of my faves. For some reason it makes me reflect and want to make a positive impact. haha. i guess the happy headbanging music helps...

When i listened to metal, I was more of the pantera type and the death metal. I stopped listening to metal bc it changed my life too much. It made my artwork... brutally dark. I decided that I wanted more positive influence in my life... afterall, i always have negative influences :) Metal lyrics are usually so dark T_T death, f****ing it all, pain, etc... :) I did hear some positive christian metal i think..

But anyways I am now listening to classical (I go through stages of listening to a genre then moving on to another.. cyclical :D )
