What do you say if you go to the E.R. for an obsession with pills and suicide pl!

Question: What do you say if you go to the E.R. for an obsession with pills and suicide planning?
Okay, so I may drag myself to the E.R. today and get help once and for all. I obsess about taking pills, even though I was banned from the pharmacy due to too many suicide attempts.. I want pills so badly.. and I want to die so badly.. Overdosing, hanging, shooting, hypothermia, starvation, I'm really considering everything.

I need to die. I feel myself on my breaking point. I just can't take it anymore..

So If I go to the E.R.. and I see the nurse at the Triage.. what do I say ? And what happens if they don't believe me, and what will they ask me ? And I don't want to spend 10 hours in a waiting room

Answers:

I've seen your questions before, and I can't remember how long it's been since you took pills. In my case, I had your kind of thinking when I was taking certain medications, and it turns out the obsessive thinking was CAUSED by the pills, and after a few months of discontinuing the pills, that thinking went away. I think it was some kind of akathisia/anxiety disorder that the pills were promoting, coupled with behavioral disinhibition, also caused by the pills. anyway, that intense internal agitation is gone now, finally, and I am MUCH less suicidal than before, although still very depressed. at least I can live now, which is a huge improvement!

You ought to look into dialectical behavior therapy, especially the distress tolerance part, for some immediate help. the whole program takes a year, but people who go thru it are very happy they did, and my home mental health worker says that their behavior and satisfaction with life improved very much.

there's nothing you can do about the waiting room - that's why if I need round the clock care, i will now only use a crisis bed, which is a hospitalization alternative. you don't see a psychiatrist, but it's a place where you are supervised and can just chill out until the crisis passes.

I also go for exhausting walks when suicidal, like hiking thru deep snow for an hour. Now, I don't need to do that so much because the agitation is much less.

anyway, I hope you feell better - but it will take effort on your part. they aren't going to give you pills - it appears that your area has you on some kind of database that you overdose. Imo, the psych meds don't work anyway. i'm very sorry i ever tried them and I'm doing much better now that I just - gave up. so I go fishing more, play cards more, and that really helps me cope.

You need to tell them what you have said here. Let them know you have a history of suicide attempts. Though you are not injured per se, you can be admitted to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation pending consultation with a mental health specialist. If you have a therapist, you need to call him first. If you don't have a therapist, you need to find one.

They will believe you. Tell them you are suicidal. You may even want to bring a printout of your Yahoo question. You may have to wait to see somebody, but be patient. They deal with this frequently. Don't be embarrassed or ashamed. Just go. They will take you seriously and will help you.

Get yourself into treatment.

If you go to the ER tell them what you wrote here and ask for help getting the treatment you need.
