How do I tell my mom I want to go to therapy ? Please help !?!

Question: How do I tell my mom I want to go to therapy ? Please help !?
I want to kill people for some reason. I'm serious, my sibling has depression. These thoughts don't come when I'm happy but when I'm everything but. I want to tell my parents I want to go to therapy, but not that I have the urge to do these things.

Please don't delete this, I'm just looking for help.

HI...

I have been in therapy and i have heard a lot of people say they have these random thoughts. If you know they are wrong and you are not going to act on them then you are normal so please dont worry. They are called intrusive thoughts and it is not unusual for someone who is suffering depression to have them..
here take a look at these it might ease your worry. You are not evil or crazy youare just depressed and sad,

Its how you react to these intrusive thoughts that counts most. If you didnt know they were wrong then you would have a reason to be worried.

Or google intrusive thoughts and yo will find even more info on them.

Can you write your mum a ltter telling her how low you feel and asking for therapy?
I dont know if you are in UK or USA but in usa there is this site that might be able to help you speak to someone until you can get some therapy..
http://teenadvice.about.com/od/helplines…

Or UK is childline 0800 1111 for children and young adults or Samaritans are available over email or phone check the website on http://www.samaritans.org/

Goodluck honey adn do not worry. remember its your reaction to the intrusive thought that counts NOT the thought itself.

You can tell your parents that you are feeling very depressed or fearful, and want to see a therapist. If they see what you are describing, and they don't hate therapy (or have something to hide), you'll get to a therapist.

The thing is, the cat will come out of the bag eventually. Why not be up front so that you don't dance around the subject for weeks with a high priced therapist? Once you discuss it with someone, it's quite likely going to be told to the parents, unless the therapist finds the risk of you carrying out the "urge to kill" highly unlikely (they'll discuss the method, any rehearsals for killing, whether you have the means to carry out your plan, how lethal it is, how committed to the plan you are, etc.). Once the parents know, they can be supportive and help prevent the act, even let you discuss your thoughts and feelings without guilt. The important thing is that you don't hurt anybody, right?

Wow you definitely need therapy for this. These aren't normal feelings. I have depression but I can't even imagine wanting to kill someone, not even people I hate, it's just beyond anything I can imagine.
You'll be ruining your own life completely and you'll be putting an end to the person you kill and the effectively the people who care about them. Do you not have the ability to empathise with people or something like that
Definitely try and seek help. At least then you are trying to do something

btw sorry Laura I accidentally clicked thumb down on you answer sorry I meant thumb up! :)

The key here is: are you actually making plans to kill someone, or is it just a fantasy, a daydream, fuelled by your anger and frustration boiling away inside.
Very few of us actually make plans and then really kill someone.
Very few of us do NOT have daydreams and fantasies abut killing someone at some point in our lives. Having the fantasy, the daydream, is perfectly normal. Acting on it is, of course, not.

My suggestion is that you have a look at doing some anger work. There are many internet sites which will help you. I would start by writing short stories, get your fantasies and daydreams on paper, and publish them online. It's a great way of working with that energy, and you might even make some money at it if they are good!.

Here's a good site: http://www.livestrong.com/article/14730-…
and another one www.the-online-therapist.com

I would simply tell them that you want to go to therapy. The fact that you realize that you need to address your issue is the first big step in the right direction. Either way, Candy, I would go talk to your guidance counselor at your school - he or she can start you off in the right direction.

Please get help, if you don't you may end up in jail for the rest of your life!!!
