How did you get through depression?!

Question: How did you get through depression?
I'm just wondering from others who have experienced depression and feeling suicidal...how did you make it through? I am already on medication but what else can I do? I love my job so that is the bright spot in my day but everything else about my life just sucks. Any genuine suggestions would be appreciated.

Meds always made me feel like I wasn't me. It was about 7th grade, I just kept looking so down on my life. I could play guitar, I was getting a few gigs with the band, but nothing too serious. But my grades were terrible. I didn't see any real future for me except out on the street, or working minimum wage trying to get by. That doesn't sound like much, but when you're living it, it's torture.

One day, I just decided, enough. I was tired of being depressed. I changed pretty much everything about me. I studied more, I changed my entire look, got new clothing, new hair cut, started working out, and just stayed active since. I forced myself to have a little more confidence to ask this girl I really liked out, that turned into a relationship. It didn't last, but it was progress. I wasn't 'afraid' of that anymore anyway. I held my head up, and forced myself to quit being depressed all the time.

It was VERY hard, I'll admit that. Pity is something that's hard to get over. But it's possible.

A scar across my neck.

I was into depression last year because i broke up with my 4 year boyfriend. It hurt so much. But the i realize that it's not the end of the world. I have my loving family by my side. And their support strengthens me up.

Listen to mr brightside and just keep a chin up. We all go through a stage in life which sucks majorly but just stay strong, thing will get better soon at one point or another and just think... it could be worse?

Personal expericane

I just kept telling myself to be patient.

it must get better sooner or later

I have gone through severe depression and I have been on medication as well. My source of depression was my particular surroundings. When I left the circumstance and had almost one year of rest(I just concentrated to relax and to have no stress), it seems like my depression has been less severe and I have got back my health. What also worked for me was I got a puppy and since then my depression dramatically went away(a puppy was better than medication for me). I still have a small depression, and when I am in a stressful circumstance, I get back depression for the day or so, but it does not last long now.

I am not sure what makes you depressed, but I recommend you to take a leave from the source if you are aware of the reason. If you like a dog or a pet, I recommend to get one.
Other than that, try to make a situation better(I know this stage is the hardest one when you are depressed), but when you start seeing your situation is getting better little by little, I think your depression will gradually go away.

I am sorry if it does not help, but I know what it is like to have depression exceedingly well, and I hope you will get back your health soon.
