Impact from a Mental illnesses?!

It depends on the severity of the particular disorder you have and whether or not it is being effectively managed with medication.

The impact of undiagnosed or unmedicated diagnosis can be devastating all round. To the community it can be a factor in homelessness and crime. Enlarging the jail/prison. It strains families sometimes causing spouses to separate or divorce. Friends give up trying to deal with the person. Children avoid their parents or effected siblings.

Not sure on community. But I kinda "lost" some of my family when I was first diagnosed bipolar. Many of them thought I was on drugs-I was very amped up all the time, making lousy/bizarre decisions and eventually endangering my welfare. It's been 15 years and I am just starting to get to know them again. Most of my friends gave up on me, you really learn how strong your family is when a close member falls into psychosis.
