is depression a real disorder or is it just in your head?!
Question: Is depression a real disorder or is it just in your head?
Answers:
the technical definition of it states a chemical imbalance in the brain and all which means yes, it is a real disease that you suffer from... However sometimes it can be, in my opinion, just someones mindset...
So to answer your question yes, it is a real disorder...
But some cases of depression, it may be just someones veiw of themselves and life...
Depression is best defined by the biopsychosocial model. This means that there are biological causes such as chemical imbalances, psychological causes such as an inability to handle stress, grief, or other life experiences, and social factors such as work and family problems that lead to an inability to cope. There are many facets of depression, and in some cases, yes, it can be solely psychological. A psychological cause of depression however, doesn't mean that the individual is any less depressed than the individual who suffers a chemical disorder. It's all a matter of perspective.
Personal opinion - warped, idealistic, or otherwise
some people are incapable of depression... you're obviously one of them. usually the people who suffer from it have a little bit of depth. your comment reaks of ignorance and intolerance and your emphasis on "loving life" paints a picture of a shallow, partygirl sl*t who'd never have the capacity to feel anything but grandiose. don't even mention depression: you haven't a clue

Id say its 50/50. Especially in the US will pill commercials and big pharma trying to convince us we all have something we need to give them money to fix i'd bet most of the people diagnosed with a lot of things dont have anything at all.
But on the other hand, depression isnt neccessarily wanting to die. Personally i think if youre alive and arent a little depressed there's something wrong with you. Just watch the news for 30 min. and youll see what i mean.
The brain is an organ in your body just as your heart is. Trauma or stress to the heart or body can cause cardiac arrest just as trauma or stress can effect brain chemistry and cause emotional and/or cognitive problems.
There are varying degrees of depression. Usually it does not require treatment unless it is moderate to severe. At severe the person is not stereotypically crying because they are sad. Severe depression does not have the richness of feeling and there is a numbed out feeling and inablility to cry. It is when people start recovering from severe depression that they act out and commit suicide because they have the energy to do this. Think of depression like a heart attack. If someone is in the midst of a heart attack they can't think clearly. Likewise, if someone has severe depression they too can't think clearly because the chemistry of the brain prevents them from doing so (just as a heart attack can't think clearly...the brain is merely a different organ).
